VII. Favors

What happens to you when you die depends on how you have lived your life and how you have prepared your soul. If you are only first circle in your guild, you may simply DEPART and awaken in the nearest temple with all of your items and memories intact. Of course, you may only do this a limited number of times. Before you advance to second circle in your guild, you should obtain favors.

There are thirteen immortal Gods, each with a positive and negative aspect. You should learn a bit about each of the Gods and their traits as you decide whom to worship. You may worship more than one, and during your lifetime you may change your allegiances. In the Asemath Academy Library (among other places), you will find a book titled The Immortals, which summarizes information about the Gods. You can also ask other people about them, or visit areas which teach you about them if you are observant. Seek a God (or Gods) that best represents your own values and beliefs.

After choosing a God, journey out the West gate of Crossing to the Siergelde Ruins. Pray at the altar in the Stone Grotto and state the name of your God at the appropriate time. Rise and take the orb of your chosen God, then pass through the arch. You may have to perform certain tasks or solve a puzzle in order to secure your orb.

Once you have the favor orb, you must sacrifice some of your learning and experience in the name of your God by rubbing your favor orb. You will know when your orb is properly prepared. At that time, take the orb to the nearest temple and place it on the altar. Then, when you die, you may DEPART and rise again with the favor of your God. Remember to get new favors when you use one.

If you are lucky, you may find Empaths to heal you and Clerics to raise you from the dead. Understand, though, that if you have no favors any Cleric who raises you must sacrifice one of his or her own favors for you to live again! If you have no favors and cannot find a Cleric willing to give one of their own favors to save you, you may die a permanent death and "walk the Starry Road."

If you are confused about what favors are or how to get them, I advise you to go to the Mentors at the Jadewater Mansion and ask for help.
