I. Getting Started

E. Money - Basics about money and how to make it while you're young

1. There are three types of currency used in Elanthia: Kronars (in Zoluren), Lirums (Therengia & the islands), and Dokoras (Ilithi). Each of these currencies is divided into 5 types of coins: Coppers, Bronze (10 copper), Silver (10 Bronze), Gold (10 silver) and Platinum (10 Gold). The banks in each area have exchange rates posted. You can deposit any money you make in the local bank. Once you get to the bank if you have any coins on you that are not from the province you're in, go to the Exchange BOOTH and exchange the coins for the appropriate coins (Exchange Lirums for Kronar, for example). Then go to the Teller and DEPOSIT you money. You can check your Balance or withdraw money here as well.

2. If you need money for armor and weapons, then it would be best for you to explore the city until you find one of the gates. Do not wander too far! One option for easy moneymaking is to FORAGE BRANCH. Once you have collected some branches, you can take them to the firewood peddler, Mags, who is located outside Rartan's Collegium of Inner Juggling and Reflexes (DIR REFLEX). He won't give you much, but it's a start!

3. If you belong to a combat guild, when you are ready to go hunting, try the Shipyard (DIR Shipyard.) The shipyard is filled with rats that you can practice your hunting techniques upon, plus the rats are skinable. Just SKIN RAT after you kill it, then you can sell the pelts at the tannery (DIR TANNERY). The best skinning is done while you are kneeling, and with a dagger or skinning knife. Be careful though, it's generally not a good idea to kneel and skin while another creature is taking swings at you. Training your skills at the shipyard helps you in many ways - it helps you practice hunting so you can move on to bigger and better things, it is a way to earn money, and as a Ranger, you practice your ability to skin, something that is required in the guild.
