| II. BECOMING
A WARRIOR MAGE B. SPELL SELECTION There are six spells you may choose from when you join the warrior mage guild, one from each of the six elemental spell books. These spells will help you train your magical skills, especially Targeted Magic. The magic of Warrior Mages is the manipulation of forces from the elemental Planes. Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Electricity and Aether are the tools we use to forge our spells. Below are the spells you are allowed to select from when you join our guild. The best spells to teach Targeted Magic skill to the very young are Aether Lance, Fire Shard and Gar Zeng. We suggest these spells because they can be cast at very low mana and the young war mage does not have a lot of mana available to them in many areas. The other spells are more spectacular to watch, but require more mana to cast and don't teach targeted as well as the first named spells. Part of the reason the spells with a higher minimum mana don't teach well in the beginning is that your Primary Magic skill determines how much mana you can put into a spell. At low Primary Magic skill ranks, the inherent power in a minimum cast is virtually the same between all the targeted spells available to the beginning Warrior Mage, whether it is a one-mana Fire Shard or a 6-mana Frost Scythe. Having a one-mana minimum will allow you to cast a spell at additional mana levels a lot earlier than most of those spells with a higher minimum. Remember, when you are targeting and casting at a creature, cast to injure, not to kill. The longer the creature remains alive, the more you can cast at them and the more Targeted Magic skill you will learn. |
