II. BECOMING A WARRIOR MAGE
B. SPELL SELECTION

Always remember when you are young and starting to use your targeted magic, wait for the messages that you are fully prepared to cast your spell and you are targeting as well as possible. By waiting, you accomplish 2 things. First, at low Primary Magic ranks, you are more likely to channel all your mana into your spell by waiting for the 'fully prepared' message. Second, you are more likely to hit your target by waiting for the 'targeting as well as possible' message. Both of these factors... power of the spell and hitting with a solid hit... determine how well you learn Targeted Magic skill. Second, you are allowing the mana you are using to build back up while you wait for the message and can cast your spells in a more consistent pattern that way, leading to increased learning over time. The young Warrior Mages have said that they learn more Targeted Magic skill by waiting for one solid cast of a spell than they do by casting several spells in the same amount of time by casting before they receive the messages.
