| III. FAMILIARS A. FAMILIAR SIZES AND TYPES In order to create a talisman that will summon a creature for you, you will basically need a talisman, a carving knife, and enough mechanical lore skill to handle the knife so as not to break the talisman as you carve it. Small talismans may be purchased at the Artificer's Shop in Crossing or Riverhaven. Large talismans and belradi potion may be purchased at the Artificer's Shop in Crossing, Riverhaven, and Ratha. (Large talismans require belradi potion to assist in the bonding process.) Dark and Fir talismans and their familiars may only be gained through successfully completing a different quest for each. Carving Knives may be found in the Madmen hunting areas, in the Wildland Goblin hunting area in RiverHaven, or at the Kaerna Village general store. To carve a Small talisman successfully it is recommended that you have a minimum of 10 lessons in mechanical lore. For a Dark talisman you need at least 50 lessons, and for a Fir talisman, 100 lessons. In order to carve a talisman for bonding, you will first need a new, previously unused talisman. Rub the talisman until you feel a bond with it. Once the talisman is bonded to you, carve the talisman with your carving knife. Keep carving the talisman until you carve out the fine details. If you carve beyond "fine details" there is a possibility of breaking the talisman. When you have brought out the fine details, hold your new talisman in your right hand and summon your familiar. If you have carved a Large talisman and your familiar doesn't appear when you summon it, take some belradi potion and pour the potion on your talisman. Try to summon your familiar again. If the familiar still doesn't appear, repeat the process until it does. A Warrior Mage may have as many familiar controlling talismans as they can carve. However, you may only have one familiar to control at a time. |
