Avendell Hello, My name is Avendell Rivenglen and it has come to my attention that I need to set my history down for posterity. I can't understand why anyone would want to know about a half breed Ranger, but I'll do my best to tell it straight. My life started very far north of Theren, in a small glen beside a small stream. My mother was a River Elf from the Clan known as the Rivenglen Clan, and this was where she was born also. They were not a large clan but a close one and had lived in the glen for as long as anyone could remember. As my mother grew up she developed a penchant for wandering the woods around the glen. As they were the only people around she wasn't afraid in the woods. The big critters were easy to hide from and the small ones were her play mates. This was her life for many years till she was 18. As she grew older she traveled farther away from the glen exploring the woods. It was one of those exploring days that she met my father. My Farther was a young Ranger from Theren, out exploring the woods himself. He thought he had seen a fairy when he saw my mother the first time. A small elfin girl with long blond almost white hair and pale blue eyes. He did know that what ever she was he had to get to know her. Over the next several months they met many times in the woods and eventually fell in love. As a result of that love I was born. My early life wasn't a pleasant one as the Elders of my mothers clan didn't approve of her choice of a mate. She had been promised to a rival Clan elder as a peace keeping gesture. Because of this the elders wouldn't allow her to see my father anymore. To make sure of this they told my father if he came around again they would kill me. As much as it broke his heart to do so, my father never came back the RivenGlen Clan. Much of my life after that was taken up with the drudgery around the glen. Being a half-breed and looked down on by all of the others made sure that every dirty task was mine to do. Little did they know but doing so made me strong, both of mind and heart. My only companion was my mother and her love of the woods. We spent much time together playing with the critters and her teaching me woodcraft. Little did I know then how valuable her lessons would be. When I was fourteen a band of Marauders struck the Glen, killing everyone. If not for my mothers lessons in hiding I would have been killed too. Watching them all be killed from my spot high in a tree is something I'll never forget. After setting fire to my mothers pyre I took off down river to try to find my father. After many weeks of travel I came to Theren. Asking about if anyone had seen my father I was told of the Ranger Guild in Crossing, and if anyone knew of or had seen my father it would be there. It took me 3 years to finally make it to Crossing, many long and hard miles over the lands. Learning to live off the land, traveling quietly and unseen. After finally reaching Crossing and finding the Rangers guild I went in and asked about my father. I was told the he was well know in the lands as a great Ranger. Unfortunately he had died from wounds he received in a hunting accident the year before. Now totally at a loss, with the last of my family dead I felt the only family I would have was the guild of my father. I joined the Ranger guild that day. I still live in the woods around Crossing, now 30 years old, still trying to be the
Ranger my father was, and living the life my mother taught me. If you happen to see
a blond haired Ranger in the woods, playing hide and seek with the little critters, or
maybe stalking the bigger meaner ones, stop and say hi. I'll be glad for the company and
maybe we can share a few woodcraft tips. |
