Cailei

"I was born on the 1st day of the 2nd month of Ka'len the Sea Drake in the year of the Crystal Snow Hare, 293 years after the victory of Lanival the Redeemer. I am now 72 years old, which some may find young for an Elf, though I feel the extent of my age," she began. She sat calmly in the corner of a secluded inn. She had found this particular place during one of her many journeys to find herself. Her companion sat listening intently to her story.

"I was born to a King and Queen outside of the known lands of Elanthia. We were known for our extreme wealth and material possessions. I am the second of three children. My older sister," she paused for a moment, "died in a hunting accident. My younger sister is still with us today. An Empath by choice, she always had a kind heart." The woman shifted in her chair.

"Back to my story. When I was still young, my younger sister was taken from us. My mother's spirit died when we could not find her. Soon after, her body joined the spirits. My father, heartbroken with his true love now gone, passed on as well. I was left alone. My father's dying wish was for me to find my lost sister and care for her, and so I left the home I knew and loved and set out on my journey. I travelled down from the North to meet my destiny. I was around 46 when I finally reached the Crossing. I had not yet found my sister in all of my travels.

"I continued on, keeping an eye open for some clue to my sister's whereabouts. I joined the Bard guild, finding my heart in the music that flowed from my instrument. While I was still young, I met a nice young bardling. He was not wealthy and I did not care. I married him in a small ceremony with only a few friends present. A week after our marriage had taken place, he disappeared. As I got older, I became more content in my music. That is when I met my second husband. It wasn't until we got married that our problems had really begun. We are still friends, although our marriage has since dissolved." The woman smiled at her companion. She sipped a drink that had been placed in front of her during her story.

"It wasn't until my second marriage that I finally fulfilled my father's wish. One day, after a hard day of battle, I was awaiting healing in the infirmary and I found my little sister. It was then I finally embraced life. We rejoiced as I prepared for a third marriage. My whole young life was riddled with various men, each one more special than the last. My third husband disappeared the day we were to renew our vows. I was left standing at the altar. Oh, I was so mad at him. It was long before I took in another man. However, I married yet again. A fourth husband who disappeared. My sister was there to help me pick up my pieces."

The woman pulled out a locket and opened it for her companion to view. There was the picture of a happy family: a woman that held a striking resemblance to the storyteller, a man, and a small child. She explained the picture was of her sister, her sister's husband, and her niece. Giving a sweet grin, she closed the locket. "Oh my! Would you look at the time. I must leave, I have a dinner date with my sister. Although I am the Queen of Fluff, I still know where I came from and family is very important to me. Please accept my apology, and I shall meet with you again to perhaps clear up any questions you may still have."

The beautiful woman rose from her seat, clasping her cloak around her neck, lifting the hood to cover her head. Once again she said goodbye to her companion.

"Wait!" cried the young man who had been her companion for a good portion of the night. "Please, what is your name?"

"You may call me Cailei Faiachin, Bardess and Queen of Fluff." Cailei winked and walked out the door of the inn.
