Camii Draimark

As the evening wears on, you are at home relaxing, when you suddenly hear a light rapping on your door. As you open the door you see a small black dragon peering up at you curiously, and in his claw you see a parchment. He steps forward slightly, hands it to you, and steps back. You hear his words running through your mind, "Requested information is being delivered as requested by mistress Camii." He turns and launches himself into the night sky.

As you open the parchment, you feel a web of power surrounding you, pulling your mind into darkness... you are slightly disoriented for a moment. Your senses return, and you realize you smell smoke and hear screaming and metal striking against metal. Suddenly you are blinded by light, but your sight returns quickly. You see before you the carnage of war. Out of the corner of your eye, you see a young woman fleeing across a field with a small child in her arms.

Camii Draimark steps from the darkness before you. She smiles softly. "You wanted to know my life, eh? 'Tis nothing more or nothing less than others have been through, but I will strive to give what you seek as quickly as possible. Please, watch the web of memory, that my friend Armaus has devised, so that you may see as we go along my journey through life..."

Turning toward the ever moving web showing scenes before you, she points to the child that is grasping tightly to the young woman. "You see that child? That child is I, after our village was attacked. She grabbed me and hid, and at the first moment she could find... she ran away, as fast as she could. That person is my sister, Guen. She and I were the only two to survive that day, as she ran for our lives."

The web turns again before you, you see Guen huddling down in a ditch holding the child tight. Wide eyed and frightened, the child looks up to her. "Shhhh, li'l one," you hear Guen saying. "We must be silent as father has taught us to be while out hunting, do you remember this?" The child nods slowly, and Guen pulls her close as they listen to the suffering drifting through the air. Day fades into evening, and silence roars in their ears and death floats all around them. Guen looks down and kisses the child on the forehead. "Camii, hun, I must go back. I have to see if anyone else survived. You stay here. I shall return. Sleep, li'l one... it is best right now." With that she turns and leaves the child.

Little Camii watches as her sister disappears into the smoke, and tears roll down her tiny cheeks as the memory of her father and mother flows through her mind. A loud scream fills the air. Camii realizes it was her sister. In fear she jumps and runs... into oblivion... away from the pain. Darkness surrounds you, all you hear is the sobbing of a child, and after a few moments, steady breathing. You realize the child has fallen into a slumber.

The web begins to turn yet again, and you now see the sun peeking over clouds and smoke. You see an elderly lady walking slowly along the road. Suddenly she stops, and moves into the meadow. "Och, but do we 'ave here? Ahh, but a wee lass... sleeping. Such a tiny thing to be alone. The shame of war, to leave wee ones alone with no one around to care for them...." She gently leans down and takes the sleeping child into her arms.

Again the web turns. You see a child laughing and playing... and time moves on. She is growing. Time begins to slow down again, as you see a young woman kneeling beside a pile of stones with a cross at the head of them. You see Camii placing the final stone on the grave, then she stands and walks away.

The web turns again. You feel anger, resentment, pain. You see Camii moving through life stealing, lying, and manipulating, striking at anyone who walks in her path. Slowly things move into focus again, and you see Camii, locked in a stockade. You chuckle slightly, realizing that she has found trouble in a town very familiar to you: the Crossing. You see Camii glaring at passersby as they stop to look at her. A young man walks by Camii, and pauses briefly. He peers at her, and walks toward her. Kneeling down in front of her, he brings a single finger to her face, sliding it down her cheek. "What has brought you so low, m'dear?" he asks quietly.

"It matters not what has brought me here. I am here, that is simple enough," she spits back at him. You hear him chuckle slightly. As he sits beside her, he brings a flask from his belt, opens it, and puts it to her lips. She stares up at him and asks, "Why do you do such a thing? I am a convicted thief, people will talk."

A deep laugh sounds through the night. "I care not what others think, let tongues waggle." She looks up at him smiling.

You watch as he sits through the night, talking to her and regaling her with tales of his life. Night turns into dawn, and you see the guard coming. As they release Camii, the young man watches closely. When the guards are out of sight, he turns to her and bows. "Sylvaniaus Plotanius at yer service, M'lady." He takes her hand and gently kisses it. She jerks it away and ponders him for a few minutes. After some time she thrust her hand to him. "Camii Draiimark."

Your vision blurs slightly as the web turns. You see visions of Camii and Sylvaniaus, hunting, spending days together. You see her being introduced to a young man; the visions slow a moment. "Camii, I would like you to meet my brother Ullon," Sylvaniaus says. She looks up smiling. "It is a pleasure to meet you."

"Aye, it is a pleasure to finally meet you Camii." She turns to Sylvaniaus and asks, "Any more brothers hiding?" Chuckling, he answers, "Oh, I have a few lurking about." He grins and winks.

The web beings to turn again, and you hear Ullon and Camii speaking. "Camii, it is time. You are not a thief at heart. Let me show you where you belong." He guides her slowly, and as they stop at their destination, she looks up to him quizzically. "The Paladin guild?" Ullon nods. "Aye, Camii, you do not have the heart of a thief." Smiling, she looks up at him, seeing the truth in his words.

From this day forward you see Camii, sharing with others, teaching, showing others the path of light and righteousness. Brothers are adopted from the guild. You see Pedrig moving through her life, and Telnavare as well. And those who left lasting impressions. Krymson, Redarch, Portense, and the loveable Mistified.

Happiness prevails in Camii's life, but something very unexpected happens. As you see Camii standing outside of the northeast gate in the Crossing, a woman approaches her. In an almost inaudible whisper you hear, "Camii? Camii, is that really you?" Camii peers up to the woman, confused. Suddenly a gate opens. "Guen? Guen?! I though you dead... my dear sister!" They embrace.

The web turns again, and next you see Sylvaniaus and Camii exchanging rings. Peace has settled over this once frightened little girl, who has grown into a woman.

But it does not last. A dark cloud looms in the distance, horns sound, and a man comes running through town, screaming, "We are under attack! The gorbesh have come! To arms, to arms!"

The wedding party turns now into a hunting party, headed straight into the heat of battle. With the cries of death and the stench of bodies rotting in the sun all around her, Camii realizes something is not right. Frantically she searches for Sylvaniaus and Ullon, only to find them dead. Helplessly, she stands and watches as their souls walk the starry sky. She screams into the night, falling to her knees, weeping. She is attacked from behind, and knocked unconscious.

Some time later, she awakens. Heartbroken and lost, she wanders into the forest, not to be seen for a long while.

Months later she emerges from her mourning, and heads straight for her guild, in need of guidance. She slowly starts to pull her life back together. Time goes by, and she buries her self in training.

On one such occasion, a young man approaches her. She hears a whisper, "Hello dear sister." She peers quizzically at the stranger, and he smiles. "Were you not wife to Sylvaniaus?"

She nods. "Aye I was."

"I am brother to Ullon and Sylvaniaus."

Smiling softly, she moves to hug him.

"Ramerez, at your service, milady." Time moves on. Camii spends time with Ramerez, getting to know him, spending time with the only family that is left of her beloved husband. They are out hunting one day, when a man approaches them. "Camii? Camii Draimark?"

"Aye, and who, may I ask, is inquiring?"

"Draconsis Plotaniaus at your service."

"Do I know ye?"

"Nae m'dear, but you were wife to my late brother, Sylvaniaus."

She looks to Ramerez and Draconsis. "I pledge my life now, to protect and serve the family I have left."

The web turns again, you see Camii and Draconsis forming a bond.

You see Orryn coming though Camii's life, a dear friend, and Highglenshire, dear friend as well, and teacher.

But Camii has come to realize there is more in this life. She goes on a journey alone, and prays to the gods for answers. As she opens her eyes, she finds herself sitting in front of Jadewater Mansion, listening to the Mentors. She realizes what she must do.

The web turns once more, and again Camii steps from the darkness. "I stand before you, the Mentor Society, pure of heart, and a follower of the light, beseeching you to allow me entrance into the society. I want to teach, I want more."

Everything around you goes dark, the web dissipates. You feel yourself reeling into darkness, and when you come to, you find yourself in your home, left to ponder her wild tale and her request.
