Janalynn

The story behind Janalynn Roshin

Born with one crystal blue eye and one crystal green eye, she runs from her past. Her hair, no matter how well it looks, was not born with the silver color it is. Her roots grow in as a light brown color, yet soon is noticeably dyed soon after. Her past always remains hidden, yet discoveries made by inquiries to her 'sisters' have revealed...

Growing up in a wind elven community, she was the eldest of many children. Her 'parents' where always away from her home. She raised her 'siblings' as if she herself were the parent. Her 'father' did not like the idea of letting her leave her home for fear of the younger children not having someone to raise them. Soon after two of her 'sisters', Janolee and Jonolee were allowed to leave from the home, Janalynn ran. She ran from the parents she knew, wishing only to live her own life. She found an oak, not far from her 'hometown' of Leth, which she appointed her own. For 5 years she lived within the huge oak and survived the wilderness as she saw fit.

One cool calm evening she went out to fetch the much needed supplies for her newly made home. She didn't want to be seen within the city walls and snuck among the bushes in the dark. Forced to thievery, she began to visit various places to take what was needed. After each visit she would write in a small book of what she would pay back to each owner.

On her way to her fifth stop for the night, she heard noises farther down the road. Not wanting to get caught, she stopped in her tracks and remained as silent as she could. As the voices came closer, she realized it was a band of around seven thieves on their way to her 'parents' home. They spoke of money borrowed and money owed. She realized they were hired thugs sent to reclaim what some other had lost. Acting quickly, she loaded her bow and began to aim at the assumed leader's head. Waiting till after they passed by her, she attacked from behind.

The arrow whizzed by the target and was lost into the night. Her inexperience showing as she once again remained silent. One of the members of the band spotted her, in mere seconds of searching, and dragged her out of her hiding spot. She struggled to retrieve the dagger she kept hidden in her boot, yet they were to fast for her inexperience. Laughing loudly and speaking amongst themselves, they bound her arms with rope and forced her to go along with them. Struggling the whole way to her past home, she watched in horror as the band of thugs set it to fire. The flames rising higher then the surrounding trees, she began to bawl at the loss of her known home. Before the townspeople came to extinguish the flames, the band of thugs left into the trees, dragging Janalynn along.

The band of thugs set off to the north, despite the screams and cries from their prisoner. The group came to a thin clearing in the lush forest and began to talk aloud of what they would do to the maiden elf that attacked them. Deciding what they would do, they began to rip her cloths from her body while beating her to the ground. After using her own shirt as a gag to muffle the cries, Janalynn closed her eyes tightly and began to pray to the gods for her safe deliverance from the situation.

All at once, the consistent punching to her face and the bashing of clubs to her body suddenly stopped. Upon opening her eyes, she saw a group of creatures in which she did not recognize cackling to themselves as they danced around the now dead band of thugs. Afraid they might do the same to her, she lay there as if dead, beaten and battered with the loss of her cloths. The three creatures each grabbed one of the bodies and disappeared with it into the brush. She decided to try to get hidden before they came back for the rest.

She squirmed her way under some nearby brush to hide. Watching silently, she saw the three creatures come back for the rest of the bodies. Seeing only two, the creatures shrugged it off and left with them. She waited until she could hear them any longer and began to work her way out of the rope, which bound her hands together. After what seemed like hours of struggle, she decided she would need help. With her mouth gagged she looked around for an alternate option to try to scream.

Her eyes rest upon a dagger, obviously dropped by one of the thieves, and she began to squirm and roll her way from under the brush toward the dagger. With no strength left, she barely reached the dagger and grasped it. The loss of blood became too much for her as she slipped from consciousness before having the satisfaction of cutting the ropes.

She awakened in a small one room house. With a groggy head, she realized she was being tended to by her 'sister', Jonolee.

"Looks like you had quite a rough time." Jonolee said as she smiled sweetly at Janalynn. Janalynn answered with nothing more then silence. Still feeling groggy, Janalynn went to sleep once again, having no dreams to be remembered, no glimpses to aid her along.

The next time Janalynn awoke, she was fully healed of her injuries and saw no one in site. She got out of bed and rummaged around the home. Finding her tattered clothing, which was now nothing more then freshly sewn together rags, she quickly dressed and took her leave. She found herself within a town she had never heard of, The Crossings, and decided to once again make a new life.
