Kalanin Merimar It is time I'm told to put my story into this form. Having learned the language of this world and some of the writing, I put quill to paper to tell my story. For many generations my family has passed their information from father to son in chants and songs about their deeds. Many pictures have been drawn to celebrate the acts of bravery in my clan. We hunted deer, bear and elk in the mountains. Gathered fruits and berries from the land and lived in harmony with nature. Seldom did we war upon another tribe. I was the son of the village shaman; my line was marked with green eyes, the sign of the gods, for we were adept in the use of magic. We used the elements of the earth in our conjuring. We cast cantrips to aid in the proper timing for hunts or the best times to unite in marriage and if needed, when to battle. Many happy times were had roaming the foothills surrounding my home. I guess I must start by explaining that I am not from the realm of Elanthia originally. How I came to be here is only remembered as a frightening dream. There was a strange storm brewing in the foothills surrounding my clan home on the banks of the River Aleg'haney. The winds grew fierce as the gods waged battle in the skies, great flashes lit the earth with eerie purple light and great rumblings spread across the land. The tribe huddled within their longhouses waiting for the gods to finish their business and restore the land. The last I remember was a great purple flash and a tingle across my body. My next coherent thoughts were of a strange city where many unfamiliar races wandered about, pale Elothians, scaled S'kra Mur, giant Gor'Togs, stout bearded Dwarves as well as slender Elves. For several days I wandered the city picking up bits and pieces of the tongue, learning the local dialect and finding my way around. Seeing people of the lands in metal suits was a new experience for me, as my people had always worn leather from the deer and elk we hunted. I listened to people in the market and learned of the guilds and their roles in the lands. After learning of the War Mage guild and their use of the elemental magics, I sought them out hoping to find a way back to my world. Gauthus, the Guildleader, explained to me that what the gods had done we could not undo, and that I was to live in this world for some reason only the gods knew. Resigned to living in this world, I spoke to some extent to Gauthus and decided to join the guild of the War Mages. I made many friends in my new life as I explored the realms, each day bringing new discoveries and adventures. I have seen the expansion of the realms as new lands are explored, and defended the Crossing through many invasions. I am known as Kalanin Merimar, the Wandering War Mage, for I wander the realms, helping others new to these realms as I once was, seeking some way I might return to the home I was pulled from many years ago. Always searching for a way home, Kalanin, The Wandering War Mage |
