Micwolf Winterlorn Micwolf was born an orphan to a mysterious woman known only as Lauralynn. She lived long enough to name the child before dying from complications with the birth. The empath attending Lauralynn swore to raise the child as her own. She gave him the last name of Winterlorn after the name inscribed on the locket around his mother's neck. He grew up in a very loving yet financially meager single parent home. Early in his youth he was abducted from play by a greedy trader who sold the boy into slavery. Micwolf managed to escape and was befriended by a Cleric. The boy was lost in the realms, so the cleric took him to The Crossing's cleric guild. There under the guidance of Tallis after an unsuccessful search for his adoptive mother, Micwolf was inducted into the guild. His childhood was primarily one of education and work. The clerics provided for his physical needs but were not prepared in caring for a child. The female empaths visiting the guild took Mic under their wing and mothered him, filling that void in him. With their strong influence, Micwolf grew into a man of strong moral character and compassion. He held a great respect for all the gods but viewed 3 as his primary deities - Hodierna from the empath influence, Truffenyi from the clerics, and Eluned from his strict studies. Mic rose quickly in the guild becoming a full priest before many of his peers did. He often traveled, taught, and tried to live his life as an example to his gods. One day while in Theren, he met a Paladin who had stopped to aid him in his journey. Fate shone upon Mic, for she was his long lost sister. Soon the family was reunited. He often traveled to visit his family and hunt with his sisters. During his travels he came across an evil mage who resented Micwolf. He vowed to torment him unto death. Though he tried several times, Micwolf survived. His family pleaded with him to not take vengeance on the mage. They believed that aggression was a sign of weakness and that only a true man would seek peace through negotiations. Micwolf traveled to the temple and prayed to his gods for deliverance from this mage, as he had many times since his first appearance. Still his gods would not answer him and left him to fend for himself. A life full of devotion to these gods and they turned their back on him in his hour of need. Mic became very bitter and was becoming susceptible to Risden's dark seductions.... "Come to the dark side Micwolf. In darkness there is power." Mic renounced his gods and questioned his motives for entering the priesthood. As time went on, Micwolf fell into despair. The local authorities would do nothing about the mage's constant harassment and attempts on Micwolf's life. Mic knew that if he went into combat with the mage, he would die. For the mage had trained for years while drinking zombie's revenge heavily. This drink has been known to enhance a person's abilities during a catatonic sleep-like state. Mic's only recourse was to trust the government, which failed him. After a long absence from the temple, Mic returned. He knelt in quiet contemplation, questioning if the gods truly exist or if they are but servants to a greater power. Had his devotion been misplaced all these years? He reached out and touched the altar and a vision entered his mind. Phelim and Chadatru stood before him. Chadatru's deep voice spoke saying; "Justice will come to the mage. You must have patience and not lose heart". Phelim laid his hand on Mic's shoulder and softly said with a wink to Chadatru "Justice is not necessarily lawful. One day Micwolf you will have your vengeance, until then sweet dreams." With those words the vision faded and Micwolf stayed kneeling absorbing all that he had seen. He drew his sword and examined its finely sharpened blade. He placed it upon the altar and offered it to Chadatru and Phelim with these words, "My blade and life are yours, my gods. I will live my life as an example to your tenets. I will remain fair and just in my decisions. And when my sword swings, it will be in the name of righteousness. All praise Chadatru and Phelim." The sword was engulfed in a white light that spread to cloak Mic. He once again felt spiritually filled, his faith restored. With renewed faith in the gods, Micwolf continued his training and assistance with educating the young. In time the mage realized that he could not push Mic into a corner to fight and slowly began to leave him alone. Though bitter from his ten years of harassment, Micwolf managed to over-come those feelings and find peace in the realms once more. Micwolf is no longer that sheltered young man who viewed the world with rose colored glasses. He is a veteran of life's hard teachings with the strength of his sword to uphold justice. Though compassion is still within him, it is controlled by his moral principles. One day while hunting with a close friend of many years, Mic found something he hadn't expected. (to be continued)
