Saethren
Yer askin 'bout Saethren, aye? So I guess 'e finally made it rich... Lorthew Mentor
Society ya say? Hm... can't say tha I know anythin 'bout yer type... but I tell ya wha I
can.
Ya see... Saethren, as ya know 'im, wern't aways like 'e is now... and ya wull tell 'im
nuffin I say, aye? Good then... lessee... 'E was born ta Murik and Looli Almakar, both
which lived on tha land, they did. Wha ya call farmers, ya city types, I wager. They good
folk, none too smurt, but strong a arm and 'eart. They married, oh... a good cuple yers
afore havin Saethren as ya know 'im.
Ya see... 'e was born ta good Missus Murik Almakar as li'l Mik Almakar, their pride and
joy... an altaget'er unspected young lad. (Ya see, they wern't ready fer children jus
yet... tho they sure could use em at their age... 20 yers old was Looli, an she ne'er had
a youngun!) Wull, as 'e grew, Murik put 'im ta werk on tha farm, helpin wit tha sheep an
all.
Now Mik, 'e was a queer sort if I e'er met one, wantin ta spend 'is time in study, makin,
as 'e said, 'a better person a 'imself.' 'E had dreams a goin ta tha Crossin and tha
Aesmath Academie or wha'not... too much time dreamin, too li'l werkin had Murik mad as a
gobbin on samatak o'er it all. Master Murik wouln't send 'im ta no city, specially when 'e
wern't responsible enuf ta keep up wit 'is chores on tha land.
Tha boy came o'er alla time, and talked wit me woman (she's gone now tho, Truffenyi help
'er) 'bout 'is dreams and such nonsense. Right unhappy lad as I recall it, as 'e shoulda
been after puttin 'is father thru what he done each day.
One day I o'erherd 'im mention tha werd 'saethren,' I suppose it were gonna be 'is new
name... said somethin 'bout ol' Gamgweth, some speak we don't use round 'ere. Soon 'e just
up an ran off in tha dead a night. Murik and Looli ne'er been too happy 'bout tha. But
they had other kiddies, so tha farm's still goin good.
Yup, tha Mik was a dreamer... I suppose 'e made it good tho... if ya see 'im, don't tell
'im I told ya any a this... 'e'd deny alla it acourse. But ya tell 'im tha Missus wished
'im well on 'er last e'en. Ya tell tha durn kid tha, and ta ne'er come back ta cause 'is
folks no trouble. 'Im and 'is dreams... I tell ya 'bout tha time...
