Sanlin Shadowraiser
Born in the year of the Bronze Wyvern, 330,
Sanlin Shadowraiser came from simple beginnings. He spent his childhood
in his birthplace, Arthe Dale, and was raised by a loving community
full of joy, beauty, and life.
A precocious child, Shadowraiser was well educated in his youth by the
elders of Arthe Dale. He soon became bored with simple education, and
although he continued his schooling, Sanlin began to push himself to
learn skills and trades that might help him more throughout life than
booksmarts. He became an expert horseman, a charismatic speaker, and
was the most agile Olvi in Arthe Dale as a young man.
As Shadowraiser grew into his adolescence, he began to work as a courier
for the Tanglefoots of the Dale. Carrying letters and messages of official
business throughout the provinces and boroughs of Elanthia, Sanlin became
well acquainted with the dialects, races, and customs of different locales.
This era in his life brought him the street smarts that would be so
important to him farther down the road. He returned to Arthe Dale more
often as his romance with his employers daughter, Penelope Tanglefoot,
blossomed into love. Soon after Shadowraiser had returned permanently
to the Dale to live with Penelope, the Gorbesh army came from the Nordlands
and began its southward invasion of Elanthia that winter.
Sanlin was called to arms for the defense of Arthe Dale and was wounded
terribly by a Gorbesh archer's arrow in the ferocity of the battle.
As Penelope attempted to drag his unconscious body from harm's way,
she was slain by the Gorbesh soldiers who had penetrated the gates of
the once peaceful Olvi city. He bears her mark upon his back to this
day.
Years of mourning led to reclusiveness and Shadowraiser became less
interested in anything around him until Jeremiah Tanglefoot, the uncle
of Penelope, visited him one day. Jeremiah gave him direction and showed
him how to channel his anguish by staying busy with charity, and to
this day Sanlin Shadowraiser is a proud member of the Lorethew Mentor
Society. The Society is a necessity to him, for he can only help himself
through giving to others. |
