Zelion I grew up in Shard with my father (a member of the
Celestial Compact), my mother, and my half brother Kvott. For the most part, it was
a childhood like anyone else's. My father frequently had meetings in Crossing and he was
often gone for long stretches of time. Savphron and I lived happily together for a short time and pursued our careers. Unfortunately, I began drinking heavily. I felt pressured and stressed, like I was burning out. I started taking my profession less seriously. One night my wife received a message from her parents saying that they wished to meet me. We agreed to come to their home for dinner the following week. When we arrived, Savphron's mother welcomed us inside and was very pleasant and hospitable to us. Her father was napping at the time, so her mother entertained us for about an hour. We exchanged stories and had a very nice time. When we were all seated and ready for dinner to be served, Savphron's father came out. I don't think he recognized me, but he was MY father! I was outraged! I jumped from my seat and ran outside into the wilderness. Oh the thoughts that were going through my head at that time! When night fell, I returned to the house. All the lights were out, and I crept back into the house. I sneaked into my father's room and strangled him with one of his expensive necklaces. When he ceased all struggling I took his Compact ring, partly as a reminder and partly to spite him. I vowed to seek out the meaning of "soul" and the sources of souls' corruption. I was never punished for my patricide. Everyone assumed my father died in his sleep. Perhaps no one noticed the marks and bruises on his neck, perhaps no one liked him enough to care about it. Savphron and I were divorced after I explained to her our blood relationship. Eventually I did tell her of my part in the death of our father, and she understood and forgave me. By then I had become a full Tezirite, following and seeking the ways of necromancy. Recently, Kvott arrived in Crossing with news of our mother's death... |
