(Begin Log - November 22, 1998) Ingrid recites: "Ok...I'm gonna hush the room for a moment so that I can tell us a bit about why we are all here today..." *** Ingrid is hushing everyone. *** Ingrid bows. Ingrid says, "I'd like to welcome everyone to the seminar today..." Ingrid says, "First off..we are all mentors for the Order of the Lorekeepers..." Ingrid says, "But more importantly we are all experienced warriors who have a love of the profession..." Ingrid says, "I'd like to point out...we are NOT gods...we are here to speak of things that we have experience of...knowledge thru many years of being warriors...not because we have the inside track...which we don't..." Ingrid says, "I'd like to do this seminar today without using this hush mode..because I think it makes it easier and more enjoyable..." Ingrid says, "So if all of you can cooperate today...we'll lift the hush and discuss things openly..." Ingrid says, "Now one last important thing before I lift the hush..." Ingrid says, "First off we are gonna be discussing statistics...which is not a proper thing to discuss publicly in normal circumstances...but because we want to help you all understand these things better to make the right choices...we will be discussing them here today openly..." Ingrid says, "But in day to day life here in the lands...discussing your statistics openly in public is in very poor taste..." Ingrid says, "Ok then...let's get this going...if you have a question...do not blurt it out...raise your hand...if you have something to say you don't want to ask in public...whisper it to Perivan..." *** Ingrid is allowing everyone to speak now. *** Ingrid recites: "We will be discussing all statistics...one after the other...then move on to skills..." Ingrid recites: "To introduce who we have here today to answer questions... We have myself Wanton Lyle Hyoko Perivan Kerl" Kerl grins. Wanton grins. Ingrid says, "I believe Basehart you are first..." Ingrid bows to Basehart. Basehart says, "It is a question about a skill I will wait" Ingrid nods. Calaron mutters under his breath. Ingrid says, "If your questions have to do with specific statistics or skills then you might want to wait as we will try to cover each in their specific location..." Chadd raises his hand. Ingrid asks, "Thelvyyner?" Thelvyyner asks, "how do you get into the warrior's guild without wiating till level 15 and if it includes masters how do i find them?" Sunny nods. Hyoko smiles. Ingrid rubs her chin thoughtfully. Kerl smiles. Intrax says, "my my a little advanced for this grup...thelyyner"" Ingrid nods to Hyoko. Axxe asks, "may I ask Lady Wanton a question about my claid?" Hyoko says, "Honorable Thelyyner." Ingrid says, "I would suggest you raise your hand, Axxe" Thelvyyner says, "nope i just arrived 2 days ago in elanthia but i befriend some advanced friends" Axxe says, "aye" Trilan cackles! Lyle nods. Lyle says, "Fwiends awe impohtant." Hyoko asks, "How to find them?" Thelvyyner says, "how do i go about finding them" Hyoko says, "Well, you could wait at the entrance and ask those that go in and out." Thelvyyner says, "they go to fast to ask" Hyoko says, "Then it may be difficult. They are like any other warriors." Martyn raises his hand. Katzandria smiles at Dexis. Hyoko says, "You cannot identify them unless you are already a member of the Guild." Axxe raises his hand. Thelvyyner says, "not good at tackling and they wouldnt appreciate it im sure" Thelvyyner says, "only first step voln" Hyoko says, "Ah, yes. There should be a plaque on the wall at the entrance." Hyoko says, "It lists the Guildmasters." Intrax raises his hand. Graenik smiles. Ingrid says, "Ok...let's move on then..." Thelvyyner says, "thank you" Dexis raises his hand. Ingrid asks, "Chadd?" (Hyoko clasps his hands and bows low to Thelvyyner) Calaron grumbles. Thelvyyner smiles as he returns the ritual to Hyoko Chadd says, "Never mind my question, it was about the warriors guild and going about joining it, but it has been answered." (Martyn lowers his hand) Ingrid nods. Kerl grins. Ingrid asks, "Calaron?" (Martyn changes his mind and raises his hand again) Calaron asks, "How long do you expect this whole seminar to last?" Wanton pokes Martyn in the ribs. Ingrid grins. Chadd smiles. Martyn blinks at Wanton. Thelvyyner snickers. Calaron rolls his eyes. Ingrid says, "Well...that depends on how fast we cover things...but I'd say we are willing to dedicate anywhere between 1 and 2 hours to try and cover all questions..." Axxe gazes heavenward. Calaron shrugs. Lireth raises her hand. Thelvyyner raises his hand. Junis raises his hand. Ingrid says, "Let's tell ya what...why don't we just hold on the questions until later...and start discussing statistics..." Junis nods. Kimber nods. Yintharo nods to Ingrid. Katzandria nods. Kimber smiles. Ksathra nods to Ingrid. Thelvyyner shrugs. (Chadd nods and lowers his hand) Intrax applauds. Nyro nods. (Thelvyyner lowers his hand) Trilan smiles. Ingrid says, "Ok then...hold the questions and let's start discussing statistics.." Axxe says, "some of us are too young to know what stats to ..discuss." Thelvyyner shrugs. Ingrid says, "Basically we will discuss all of them...in reference to our chosen profession of warrior..." Junis glances at Axxe. Thelvyyner smiles. Thelvyyner says, "good" Ingrid says, "In case you do not know...statistics are the numbers that you get when you are born...Constitution, Dexterity...etc..." Ingrid says, "You can see what you got right now by typing INFO" Ingrid says, "Statistics do rise as you get older and train..." Thelvyyner mutters slowly. Wanton nods to Thelvyyner. Axxe raises his hand. Ingrid grins. Ingrid says, "Enthusiasm to learn is important...so remember the questions and we'll get to them.." Axxe asks, "so later on my mind won't get full in 2.5 seconds?" Llearyn smiles at Lyle. Ingrid says, "Lyle is gonna discuss the first statistic that comes to mind...Constitution..." Lyle beams! Junis coughs. Axxe glances at Lyle. Thelvyyner bows to Lyle. Thelvyyner says, "learned ones" Dexis smiles at Lyle. Paloma stands up. Axxe nods to Junis. Kerl grins. Lyle says, "Constitution is one of the two stats that you will receive a free +10 to, simply for being a Warrior." Lyle says, "The other is Strength, which we'll cover a little later on." Lyle says, "Also, several races (such as Dwarves or Giantmen) receive bonuses (or even penalties) to Constitution..." Lyle says, "Though not the same way." Wanton furrows her brow. Lyle says, "For being a Warrior, you actual STAT increases by ten. Also, because you're a warrior, it will increase more swiftly than, for example, some of the more intellectual stats like Intelligence or Wisdom." Lyle says, "The racial modification, however, applies directly to the BONUS that you receive from having a high (or penalty for a low) stat value." Trilan cackles! Wanton says, "Constitution is one of the two fastest growing stats if you're a Giantman warrior. 1 point every level until it reaches 70, then 1 point every two levels to 100." Lyle nods to Wanton. Lyle says, "It grows very quickly, in other words." Kerl rubs his chin thoughtfully. Ingrid nods to Dexis. Chadd smiles thoughtfully Lyle says, "One very important thing about Constitution..." Lyle says, "It has a direct effect on how much damage you can withstand." Lyle says, "Basically, every time you train in Physical Training, you will receive some number of Hit Points (which you can see with "health", by the way)." Ingrid says, "Which is why it's so important in a warrior..." Ingrid leans on Lyle. Lyle nods to Ingrid. Lireth raises her hand. Axxe raises his hand. Lyle says, "The higher your Constitution bonus (the second column you see with "info"), the more Hit Points you can have." Intrax raises his hand. Lyle says, "If these are questions specifically about Constitution, feel free to whisper them directly to me, rather than raising hands." Lyle grins. Lyle says, "Now, a given race can only have so many hit points... for example, a Giantman." Lyle says, "Several good questions." Lyle says, "Lireth asked about the gain per level before the bonus, and Thelvyyner about adding constitution and dividing." Lyle says, "Both of those sorts of things are seen ONLY when you first begin as a Warrior; after you've entered the game for the first time, you need to train in Physical Training in order to increase your hit points." Lyle says, "Thelvyyner, basically what you described is your STARTING number of hit points." Thelvyyner says, "yea" Thelvyyner says, "thanks" Lyle says, "Axxe asked about training maximally in Physical Training... Personally I do NOT recommend it, but there may come a time when it will be useful." Llearyn suddenly fades out of sight. Lyle says, "If you get wounded, as I was when I arrived here, naturally your Hit Points go down." Lyle grins. Lyle says, "When you hit 0 hit points, you die, of course." Lyle nods to Pomic. Kerl nods to Lyle. Kara stands up. Wanton says, "I don't recommend training the max you can in physical training either." Lyle says, "If you have more training in Physical Training than 100 SKILL, every 20 points over 100 SKILL that you have, will permit you to recover 1 additional hit point every minute." Lyle says, "And if folks could hold off on questions for a few until I get these cleared up.." Lyle grins. Nyro nods. Lyle says, "I actually got side-tracked a bit. A giantman can, just because he's a giantman, have 200 Hit Points." Axxe nods. Lyle says, "If you have a 100 Constitution stat, your stat bonus is going to be 25." Lyle says, "As a giantman, you will have an additional bonus of 10, for a total of +35 in the bonus column shown by "info"." Lyle says, "That number is added directly to your racial maximum of Hit Points (in this case, 200), and that is the MOST Hit Points that you can possibly have." Lyle says, "So a Giantman with a 100 Constitution can have 235 Hit Points, and no more." Lyle says, "In my own case, as a half-elf, my Constitution bonus is only +25." Lyle says, "And half-elves can have only 150, so 150+25 = 175 is the most I can have." Lyle says, "That's pretty easy to figure out." Lyle grins. Lireth nods to Wanton. Ingrid nods. Lyle says, "Someone else asked about resisting versus poison and disease." Lyle says, "Yes, Constitution is a STRONG factor there; again, I believe it's based on the Bonus column shown by "info"." Lyle says, "Several races are also strongly resistant to poison or disease, such as dwarves..." Lyle says, "So they have other benefits versus those dangers, unrelated to Constitution." Lyle says, "Getting back to the training side..." Lyle says, "If you're wounded and/or bleeding, you will recover Hit Points every minute." Lyle says, "This is where the Physical Training skill comes in." Lyle says, "Not only does it increase (up to your racial maximum + Constitution bonus) your overall Hit Points..." Lyle says, "But as I mentioned before, once your skill in Physical Training goes above 100, every additional 20 points will help you recover 1 Hit Point per minute." Lyle says, "Thus, at 200 skill in Physical Training, you'll recover your normal amount +5 Hit Points, every minute." Lyle says, "That is a VERY long row to hoe, though." Lyle grins. Lyle says, "100 skill is achieved at 100 ranks in it... Which if you double train will take you 50 levels." Thelvyyner says, "legend" Lyle nods to Thelvyyner. Kerl nods to Lyle. Lyle coughs. Thelvyyner says, "my parents are legends" Lyle nods to Dkorn. Lyle says, "My apologies; Dkorn pointed out a mis-statement." Lyle says, "100 RANKS was what I meant to say." Lyle says, "200 skill is gained at 100 ranks; doubling for 50 trainings will give you 100 ranks." Lyle nods to Dkorn. Lyle nods to Pomic. Lyle says, "Pomic, yes; certain stats affect different Warrior Guild skills." Thelvyyner says, "brawling" Axxe nods. Lyle says, "When we get to Discipline and Charisma (two that I know of for sure), we'll get into that." Dkorn shudders. Pomic nods to Lyle. Calaron stares off into space. Lyle says, "However, I don't think Constitution has much direct effect on Guild skills..." Wanton grins. Lyle says, "Beyond help keeping you alive while you're doing them." Lyle grins. Ingrid nods to Lyle. Lyle says, "As to suggestions about Constitution." Lyle says, "There isn't much need to put a HIGH stat in it initially." Lyle says, "First you'll get the +10 to whatever you do place there (for being a Warrior)..." Lyle says, "Then as Wanton pointed out, it grows very rapidly." Lyle says, "On the bright side, having a high value here will give you a good number of Physical Training Points, for use in things like Weapon training or Armor Use skills." Lyle says, "However, since it grows so swiftly, you'll get there eventually." Lyle says, "My personal recommendation would be to hold your highest values for Discipline (the 3rd stat in "info") and Aura (the last), since they are counted for BOTH Physical AND Mental training points." Ingrid nods to Lyle. Kerl nods to Lyle. Kerl exclaims, "good idea Lyle!" Ingrid asks, "Ok...do we have any questions concerning specifically constitution?" Graefin raises his hand. Ingrid asks, "Graefin?" Graefin asks, "Doesn't constitution also factor into how well you can resist poision?" Lyle says, "Another good idea would be to put excellent values in Reflex (the 7th) and Dexterity (the 2nd), due to how swiftly they will let you swing your weapons." (Lyle segues into whoever's talking about Dexterity.) Lyle nods to Graefin. Dkorn raises his hand. Lyle says, "Yes, it does have an effect on resisting both poison and disease." Graefin nods. Ingrid asks, "Dkorn?" Lyle says, "However, I believe it's only the bonus (the right-hand column of "info") that adds in." Dkorn asks, "does constitution have any effect on the damage you take?" Lyle looks over at Dkorn and shakes his head. Dkorn nods. Lyle says, "No; damage you receive is based on how BADLY you were hit." Lyle grins. Lyle says, "As well as what sort of armor you're wearing." Dkorn shudders. Ingrid asks, "Axxe?" Lyle says, "If you're wearing chain or plate armor, you're going to tend to take less damage than someone in a filmy bath-robe." Axxe asks, "do dex and reflex go up?" Lyle smiles speculatively at Wanton. Lyle nods to Axxe. Graefin laughs! Wanton grins. Lyle says, "Yes, but probably not as swiftly as Strength and Constitution." Axxe nods. Lyle says, "Mostly, that will depend on your racial choice." Graenik raises his hand. Lyle says, "As a half-elf, my dexterity and reflex will tend to increase faster than some galumphing giantman." Lyle coughs. Axxe nods to Dkorn. You grin. Ingrid says, "True...like me as a giantman...my dexterity just recently got me up out of the negatives..." Lyle beams! Lyle and Ingrid shake hands. Calaron grins. Kerl smiles at Ingrid. Ingrid asks, "Graenik?" Graenik asks, "Will you be telling us the specific GDIs for each stat and race?" Kerl scratches at his beard. Kerl raises an eyebrow in Graenik's direction. Lyle says, "Generally, when you choose your race... if there's a + shown for it, it will tend to rise faster than the norm." Wanton says, "Actually, for those interested in stat growth, you can find out more information in the message boards. Category" Strategies and Tactics, Topic: Research and Investigations." You nod to Wanton. Lyle nods to Wanton. Wanton says, "I can look it up to give you at the end of the seminar. It'll take me a little while to find it again." Lyle says, "And look for messages titled "growth intervals", or other such." Wanton nods to Lyle. Ingrid says, "Ok...shall we move on to Dexterity..." Calaron smiles. Ingrid says, "As you just heard me say...Dexterity isn't my forte...I just stand there and take the hits more than leap out of the way gracefully like some half elf dancer..." Ingrid glances at Lyle. Lyle grins. Lyle nods to Ingrid. You grin. Kerl snickers. Calaron grins. Lyle says, "That's one thing Warriors do tend to do: get hit." Draco smiles. Ingrid says, "But Dexterity is valuable when you come up to acid slinging critters..web casting spiders...and lava spitting at you..." Lyle mutters web. Lyle shudders. Calaron raises his hand. Mkenzy raises his hand. Wanton grins. You say, "Dexterity also effects how fast you can swing weapons..." Kerl grins. (Lyle receives his own segue into the new topic.) Lyle mutters under his breath. You say, "At least, your bonus to it." Ingrid says, "Wish someone had told me about that when I was young..." Lyle says, "Moving on to the second stat shown by "info": Dexterity." You grin. Lyle nods to you. (Kerl points at Lyle and mutters, "know it all") Lyle says, "Actually, Calaron, you're thinking more of Reflex." Lyle says, "The two stats do similar things." Lyle says, "Reflex, which we may as well cover at the same time since they DO act so much alike..." Calaron says, "I know but you said it was important to not getting hit" Calaron says, "OK" Lyle says, "Reflex bonus (the 7th stat in "info") is your base Defensive Strength, or DS." Lyle says, "When facing melee weapons only." Mkenzy giggles. Wanton smiles at Mkenzy. Calaron says, "ohhhh" Lyle says, "Things like swords, axes, the occasional incensed flower girl..." Lyle says, "That sort of thing." Calaron smiles. Axxe grins. Dkorn smiles at Lyle. Kerl grins. Wanton grins. Wanton removes a barrel of Bloody Krolvin ale from inside her leather jacket. Wanton put a barrel of Bloody Krolvin ale inside her leather jacket. Lyle says, "However, it's your DEXTERITY bonus that determines your base Defensive Strength versus spell attacks such as bolts of fire or lightning." Wanton removes a tankard of dwarven ale from inside her leather jacket. Lyle says, "Again, that's the BONUS, not the raw stat value itself." Lyle says, "Taken together, the bonuses of the two stats (Dexterity, Reflex) will affect how swiftly you can swing a weapon." Lyle removes a lance from inside his clasped backpack. Lyle taps a lance. Lyle says, "Something large and cumbersome will generally take a long time to swing." Wanton removes a razor sharp heavy fired claidhmore from inside her back sheath. Wanton taps a razor sharp heavy fired claidhmore. Wanton put a razor sharp heavy fired claidhmore inside her back sheath. Ingrid removes a very sharp black alloy greatsword from inside her back sheath. Wanton removes a dark chocolate dagger from inside her supple leather cape. Lyle says, "Lances and other pole arms are probably the slowest." Kerl removes a golvern-edged rolaren waraxe from inside his mantled surcoat. Kerl scratches at his beard. Calaron asks, "Do strength and dex work together to lower time to swing weapons?" Lyle says, "Claidhmores and big battleaxes and so on aren't much better." Lyle points at Wanton. Lyle says, "A dagger or similarly small weapon is very, very quick." Lyle put a lance inside his clasped backpack. Ingrid put a very sharp black alloy greatsword inside her back sheath. Lyle nods to Calaron. Axxe raises his hand. Lyle says, "Yes, Calaron, in a rather strange manner." Kerl scratches at his beard. Dkorn returns to normal color. Kerl put a golvern-edged rolaren waraxe inside his mantled surcoat. Lyle says, "The race that you are, as well as your Strength and Constitution stat values (NOT the bonus, for a change) determines how much you can carry." Ingrid says, "Fast but lousy at getting down to the meat and bones of the situation..." Lyle says, "Also, how much you weigh." Lyle grins. Lyle is admiring Ingrid. (Lyle decides to keep his mouth shut.) Ingrid stares at Lyle. Wanton says, "Ahhh. I'd forgotten about that." Intrax stands up. Axxe is admiring Ingrid. Wanton smiles at Calaron. Intrax sits down. Axxe is admiring Wanton. Lyle says, "The more you weigh, the more you can carry, basically." Dkorn is admiring himself again. Axxe nods to Wanton. Lyle says, "If you're carrying more than you ought, you will be slowed down (in combat), as well as be more clumsy." Lyle says, "So you would NOT be able to dodge those webs from a spider, and so on." Mkenzy nods to Wanton. Ingrid says, "Indeed dodging webs while carring you and your best friend isn't easy..." Lyle says, "Having a high Dexterity and Reflex can help offset that somewhat." Lyle nods to Ingrid. Lyle says, "If your weapon takes a long time to swing, such as the lance or claidhmores I mentioned earlier..." Lyle says, "For every 15 points of _combined_ Dexterity and Reflex stat bonus that you have, you will need 1 second LESS to swing the weapon." Lyle says, "I'll go into that a bit more." Lyle says, "For example, my Dexterity stat bonus is 13, and my Reflex stat bonus is 19." Lyle says, "Total of 32." Kerl scratches at his beard. Lyle says, "That gives me two 15's... or I can swing a weapon 2 seconds faster than normal." Lyle nods to Pomic. Mkenzy chuckles. Lyle says, "Yes, Pomic; and as your Strength and Constitution increase, you'll weigh more." Lyle grins. Wanton winks at Mkenzy. Lyle says, "Getting fat in your old age, as it were." Pomic smiles. Wanton coughs. You grin. Wanton says, "That was always explained as Lean Muscle Mass." Lyle says, "Now, there is NO way that you can swing any weapon faster than 5 seconds, barring magic." Pomic rubs Wanton gently. Ingrid coughs. Lyle says, "On the other hand, we're Warriors." Ingrid says, "More burely from constant training I prefer to believe..." Lyle says, "What do we know about magic." Wanton says, "Hmmm... I should WOO you for that." Calaron asks, "nothing?" Lyle says, "Lireth... I'm not sure. If you have negative Dexterity/Reflex stat bonuses, I would assume you swing more slowly." Lireth nods to Lyle. Lyle says, "However, I cannot vouch for it, since I've always had high values in both." Wanton says, "Negative bonuses do not affect your RT." Wanton says, "The way I understand it, it stops at 0, even if you do have a negative bonus... so you can't be hurt by it. with regards to swing time." Lyle bows to Wanton. Lyle says, "Some weapons, as I say, you can swing faster." Lyle says, "Consider that a dagger might be able to be swung in only 1 second, even though it actually takes you 5 to do so." Lyle says, "However, a claidhmore might normally take 8 seconds to swing in." Lyle says, "This is where your higher Dexterity and Reflex values come in handy." Lyle says, "In my example with the dagger, you cannot swing in negative 1 seconds (1 - 2 = -1), as my stats would permit..." Lyle says, "But with a claidhmore, I can enjoy swinging in only 6 seconds rather than 8." Lyle says, "And if you don't think two secons matters..." Lyle coughs. Rynos just arrived. Rynos sits down. Darrious chuckles. Ingrid says, "And the slow giantman over here...swings mine in 7 seconds..." Wanton nods to Mkenzy. Lyle says, "Sorry to go silent on you; I was briefly distracted." Lyle says, "Yes, Axxe; the reason that I can swing a weapon faster than its normal time is due to higher Dexterity and Reflex." Lyle says, "No, Lireth; stats increase ONLY due to gaining a new level." Ingrid nods to Dkorn. Lyle says, "Whether or not they increase is based on your race, your profession, and their current value." Dkorn stands up. Dkorn waves. Lyle and Dkorn shake hands. Dkorn bows. Wanton nods to Lyle. Dkorn just went out. Calaron stares off into space. Lyle says, "There is nothing that can be trained in to increase ANY stat that you see with "info"." Intrax stands up. Lyle says, "Only those things that you can see with "skill"." Lyle says, "Now, when I said that it's +15 in combined Dexterity/Reflex bonus, per second of faster swing..." Lyle says, "That's not entirely accurate." Lyle grins. Chadd stands up. Kerl peers quizzically at Lyle. Lyle says, "Because of rounding, you actually see your FIRST second of benefit at +8 combined bonuses." Wanton nods. Lyle says, "And it then increases in steps of 15 from there." Chadd stretches. Chadd yawns. Chadd grins. Calaron smiles. Lyle says, "So if you add your Dexterity and Reflex bonuses, you will swing a weapon 1 second faster when the totals pass 8, 23, 38, 53, and 68." Chadd bows. Lyle says, "That last is attainable only by Halflings and pure Elves, though." Calaron smiles. Darrious grins. Lyle says, "The other big thing that Dexterity and Reflex do for you, is to keep you out of the way of certain maneuvers." Lyle says, "Several have been mentioned, such as dodging webs, or blobs of lava, and so on." Wanton says, "Roa'ter attacks." Wanton nods. Lyle says, "However... Each of these (and there are more) works differently." Lyle says, "What works against ALL of them is: be strong; be dextrous; don't carry much." Intrax returns to normal color. Wanton says, "don't carry much." Wanton winks at Lyle. Lyle says, "If you can "look" at a person and see them wearing eighty four different pins and ribbons and so on..." Wanton says, "Just to reiterate." Lyle says, "Even though they don't weigh much individually, the sum weight is a lot." Lyle says, "I try to wear only the necessities." Wanton nods to Ingrid. Lyle taps some ash grey laen plated armor. Lyle says, "Armor, shield, helm if need be..." Lyle taps a silver clasped backpack. (Calaron glances around at all the lords and ladies.) Lyle says, "Something to carry loot in..." Calaron smiles. Lyle says, "And of course, what I'm going to destroy the current owners of the loot with." Lyle grins. Lyle taps a weapons harness. Lyle asks, "Any questions on weapon swing times, dodging manuevers, and so on?" Calaron says, "I regretfully must leave now" Mkenzy stands up. Lyle nods to Wanton. Mkenzy just went out. Calaron just left. Lyle says, "Climbing and Swimming are also affected by Dexterity and Reflex... as well as by how much you're carrying." Lyle says, "Those are more of those manuevers that we mentioned." Lyle says, "While not immediately deadly, like being boiled alive by lava..." Wanton put a dark chocolate dagger inside her leather jacket. Wanton says, "Unless you're trying to climb the rocks into Pinefar." Lyle says, "It is possible to drown in a castle moat, or slide off a cliff and be severely jarred by the impact at the bottom." Lireth stands up. Lireth just went out. Lyle says, "As I learned long ago.." Wanton nods to Lyle. Lyle recites: "It's not the fall that hurts It's the sudden stop." Wanton grins. Wanton rubs a crystal amulet. Wanton gets an odd look on her face. You grin. Wanton rubs a crystal amulet. Axxe chuckles. Lyle says, "Pomic, I don't believe there IS anywhere that making a jump, like a broad jump, is required." Lyle says, "I could be wrong, but I've never run across one." Lyle says, "Same sort of thing, though; and you can't train in "jumping"." Wanton asks, "Wehntoph?" Lyle says, "Axxe, weight carried hindering you climbing around is based on how bulky you are." Lyle says, "If you weigh 150 and you're carting around 400 pounds..." (Lyle blows bubbles.) * Massion just bit the dust! * Massion was just vaporized! Lyle says, "Massion was carrying too much, and fell off a cliff." Lyle coughs. Kerl laughs! Wanton chuckles. Kerl coughs. Kerl blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Lyle says, "Sorry." Ingrid asks, "Ok...any other questions on Dexterity?" You grin. Lyle says, "Graefin raises an excellent question." Lyle says, "Graefin whispers, "'Does the 1 second off your rt from armor work the same? Combined bonus of 8,23,38,53,68, would bring it down 1, 2...?"" Lyle nods to Kerl. Kerl nods to Lyle. Wanton nods to Pomic. Lyle says, "And armor is one of the mainstays of the Warrior." Lyle says, "When you wear a suit of armor, depending on the type of it, your weapon swinging will be slowed." Axxe nods. . Lyle says, "If you're wearing plate armor that covers you from head to toe, for instance, it's THIRTEEN seconds." Lyle says, "So if you're swinging a claidhmore (8 seconds), and wearing full plate armor, you're only swinging 3 times in a minute." Darrious says, "ack" Lyle says, "Two things help here." Lyle says, "First is that Yes, your Dexterity/Reflex bonuses will reduce that." Lyle says, "If it were me, with my 2 seconds off..." Lyle says, "I would be swinging at 21 - 2 = 19 seconds." Lyle grins. Lyle says, "Still pretty slow." Lyle says, "However, you can also train in Armor Use skill." Lyle says, "Every twenty SKILL that you have in this, reduces the penalty of the armor you wear by one second." Lyle says, "You can NEVER reduce your armor penalty below 0." Lyle says, "If you're wearing 4 second armor, and you have 100 skill (for 5 seconds of benefit), you DO NOT swing faster than normal." Lyle says, "The command "skill" tells you both how much skill you have, and how many ranks you have." Lyle says, "Once you pass 40 ranks, each rank is worth only 1 point." Lyle says, "So it takes a long, long time to overcome that 13 seconds. 260 skill." Lyle says, "Once again, though, rounding comes into effect; you actually get the first second off at only 10 skill, and then it increases in steps of 20." Lyle says, "It's just easier to think of it in terms of 20's." Lyle says, "So, if you're fully trained for the armor that you are in, then it will have NO EFFECT on the speed at which you swing your weapon." Chadd grins. Chadd sits down. Wanton smiles at Chadd. Lyle says, "At that point, it's based solely on the weapon you're swinging, and again modified by your Dexterity and Reflex stat bonuses." Lyle says, "Axxe raises a question about skill." Lyle grins. Lyle says, "Skills do NOT increase in a straight line." Lyle says, "ONLY the first ten ranks you get are +5 apiece." Axxe nods. Ingrid nods to Wanton. Lyle says, "So the first ten ranks you have are worth a total of 50 skill." The very powerful look leaves Kerl. . Lyle says, "The next ten ranks (numbers 11 through 20) are worht +4 each." Lyle says, "Once you have 20 ranks, you will have ten that are worth 5, and ten that are worth 4... for a total of 90 skill." Lyle says, "Ranks 21-30 are worth three each; 31-40 are worth two each." Intrax just went out. Lyle says, "So at 30 ranks of skill, you'll have 50+40+30 skill, or 120; and at 40 ranks of skill, it's 50+40+30+20, or 140." Lyle says, "After that, each rank is worth only a single point." Wanton nods to Ingrid. Lyle says, "It's easier to think about if you just take the number of ranks and add 100, if you have 40 ranks or more." Lyle nods to Kerl. Ingrid rubs her chin thoughtfully. Lyle says, "Any questions on skill progressions, armor training, weapon swing times, carrying stuff around..." Lyle says, "Currently, Graefin, Multiple-Opponent combat is partially implemented." Lyle grins. Graefin rolls his eyes. Kerl nods to Graefin. Lyle says, "If you're standing in a room with sixteen opponents, every one of them will feel free to beat on you." Axxe smiles. Ingrid says, "If you do have a question...ask it out loud so we may all hear it...it's quiet enough here we should be ok as long as we respect everyone here..." Lyle says, "However, the skill that deals with Multiple Opponent Combat currently does nothing to affect that." Lyle says, "There is a great deal of discussion as to how to change this, though." Lyle says, "MultiOpponent skill does have one VERY great use, and that is something that's about a year old." Lyle says, "It's called "DF Redux", short for Damage Factor Reduction." Lyle says, "When you get hit by a weapon, as I mentioned earlier, how MUCH damage you take is based upon how BADLY you get hit." Lyle nods to Kerl. Lyle says, "Kerl points out that training in MulitOpps is rather expensive for this, and he's very right." Axxe asks, "and how badly you get hit depends on..?" Lyle says, "When you swing a weapon, your AS (Attack Strength) is compared to the targets DS (Defense Strength)." Lyle says, "The weapon you swing, and the targets armor, both affect it." Wanton says, "The weapon you get hit with, the armor you're wearing, the place you get hit and how much you get hit by.. for a start." Lyle says, "And there's an element of luck (a d100)." Lyle nods to Wanton. Kerl says, "whether or not you duck in time" Lyle says, "This gives a final number." Axxe nods. Kerl ducks his head. You nod. You grin. Lyle says, "That number determines how badly you got hit, and will determine how much damage you receive." Lyle says, "DF Reduction LOWERS the amount of damage you receive." Lyle nods to Wanton. Chadd stands up. Chadd just went out. Darrious just left. Lyle says, "It is an incredible benefit, but worthy of a couple hours all on its own." Lyle grins. Wanton nods. Wanton stands up. Darrious just arrived. Lyle says, "Suffice to say that most Warriors will tend to get the benefits of it in the low to mid 20s of training." Ingrid nods. Wanton nods to Lyle. Ingrid says, "Let's try and continue our way down the list of statistics..." Ingrid says, "Next up is Discipline..." Ingrid says, "Something an elf would know nothing about..." Ingrid just nudged Lyle. You grin. Wanton says, "Discipline is one of those stats that don't directly affect a lot of things you do.. at first." Wanton grins. Wanton says, "It's one of the stats that gives you both mental and physical training points, same as Aura, in that respect." Ingrid nods to Wanton. Wanton asks, "You've all trained once and know about training points, right?" Flamefoot nods. Ingrid says, "Which makes it a rather helpful statistic for getting training points..." Wanton says, "Discipline helps you learn how to berserk.. the more disciplined you are, the more you're able to control your rage." Chadd just arrived. Chadd sits down. You say, "In order to determine the number of training points you have, you plug your statistics into one of two formulas.." Kerl scratches at his beard. You say, "For mental training points, it's (IN+WI+CH+LO+AU+DI)/10..." Ingrid says, "The ability to remain hidden is also effected by your Discipline stat..." You say, "And for physical training points it's (CO+DE+ST+RE+DI+AU)/10." You say, "So you can see, discipline effects both.. which makes it very important." Ingrid nods to you. Wanton says, "Your discipline BONUS also affects your aiming ability with a ranged weapon." Kerl raises an eyebrow in Wanton's direction. Wanton says, "As does your Reflext Bonus." Wanton nods to Kerl. Kerl grins. Wanton says, "not a whole lot of warriors train in ranged weapons, but some do." Wanton smiles. Wanton asks, "Any questions about discipline?" Axxe asks, "will low discipline affect exp?" Graefin asks, "Well since Ingrid brought it up, does your race affect your ability to hide at all?" Chadd rubs his chin thoughtfully. Kerl looks over at Axxe and shakes his head. Wanton says, "No, Axxe, it won't affect your experience in any way, shape, or form." Axxe nods. Rynos stands up. Ingrid rubs her chin thoughtfully. Wanton says, "Graefin, we're working on your question..." Graefin nods. Lyle says, "To a certain amount your ability to Hide is affect by race, but mostly by your stat bonuses and the speed at which they grow, giving you more points to train in the skill." Chadd says, "I believe race should affect your ability, due to the fact that its much harder to hide as a giantman than a hobbit..." Ingrid says, "Well to be honest...I'd think hiding a little elf would be easier than hiding a huge giantman in a shadow...but that's just my opinion..." Lyle says, "The biggest single factor is how skilled you are in Stalk/Hide." You grin. Lyle says, "Being UNcharismatic helps you hide in the first place; being well disciplined helps you stay that way..." Darrious says, "no hobbit we are halflings" Darrious grins. Kerl chuckles. Wanton smiles at Lyle. Lyle says, "However, hiding is another one of those maneuvers, and generally will be helped by Dexterity and Reflex." Chadd says, "My mistake, I apoligize" Darrious chuckles. Wanton grins. Wanton asks, "Any other questions concerning discipline?" Hyoko says, "I guess if your uncharistatic people aren't paying attention to you anyway, so it's easier to hide." Lyle nods to Hyoko. Lyle says, "People don't watch the ugly ones." Lyle grins. Graefin grumbles. Lyle is admiring Wanton. Chadd grins. Wanton just kissed Lyle on the forehead. Lyle blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Ronnie giggles. Ingrid says, "Must be why I can't hide worth a hill of beans..." Wanton nods to Ingrid. Wanton grins. Pomic just left. Ingrid says, "Ok next up is Logic and Intelligence..." Kerl says, "that's 'cause you're bigger than a hill..." Chadd nods. Kerl whistles tunelessly to himself. Ingrid says, "I put them together as they tend to work together..." Grin You grin. Ingrid pokes Kerl in the ribs. Wanton says, "Logic and Intelligence are the two slowest growing stats for giantman warriors." Ingrid nods to Wanton. Chadd frowns. Ingrid nods to Wanton. Ingrid nods to Wanton. Ingrid raises her hand. Wanton says, "And for warriors in general. But the worst for giantman warriors." Ingrid says, "STill in the negatives over here..." Wanton begins chuckling at Ingrid. Axxe grins. Kerl rubs Ingrid gently. Wanton says, "I placed my stats to optimize for after 50th level.... high numbers in the slow growing stats, low numbers in the fast growing ones...." Ingrid asks, "Ok...what is Logic and Intelligence for, you ask?" Wanton says, "I have a rather high intelligence and logic." Wanton grins. Wanton says, "But I can't hit as hard as Ingrid.. yet." Ingrid says, "And why do warriors need them..." Chadd asks, "A smart warrior?" Ingrid says, "I'll tell you why..." Wanton says, "To put down rumors about stupid warriors." Wanton winks at Ingrid. Chadd grins. Axxe says, "dah" Ingrid says, "Fill my mind...it doesn't take long...a warfarer or three...then watch me sit for an hour trying to empty it out..." Kerl mutters under his breath. Chadd nods. Ingrid says, "Logic gives you the amount you can hold from learning..." Wanton says, "It takes me forever to fry my mind." Ingrid says, "Intelligence dictates how fast you absorb what you have in your mind..." Wanton nods to Ingrid. Wanton says, "and I absorb quickly... when I'm fried, I absorb 33 experience per pulese." Wanton says, "er... pulse too." Chadd says, "I was wondering what affected the speeds of clearing minds..." Axxe says, "aye.. there I'm confused." Ingrid says, "So being me...means you got a 54 logic...so I believe and I might be wrong here...but Lyle will correct me no doubt...but that means I can hold 540 experience points..." Lyle grins. Kerl glances at Lyle. (Kerl waits) Lyle says, "Actually, I never bothered to determine how much you can hold." Lyle says, "I know that it used to be a much greater spread than currently... And Wanton echoed my thought that it started at about 800." Chadd asks, "But a patient warrior with a smaller amount of logic and intelligence will have an advantage over an impatient warrior, both at the same level, correct?" Lyle says, "I have a niggling thought that says it's in the 800-1200 range, but don't hold me to it." Wanton rubs a crystal amulet. Wanton gets an odd look on her face. Ingrid rubs her chin thoughtfully. Ingrid says, "Well being a slow learner...I do watch it..." Ingrid winks at Lyle. Ingrid says, "And watch it..." Ingrid says, "And watch it..." You grin. Axxe asks, "if you're fried, but go on and on.. any benefit?" Chadd raises his hand. Wanton looks over at Axxe and shakes her head. Chadd asks, "Could I ask a small question here?" Ingrid says, "But like I said I could be wrong..." Ingrid shrugs. Ingrid asks, "yes Chadd?" Graefin returns to normal color. Chadd asks, "Is it true that you will clear your mind faster if you spend time at a node, like town square central?" Wanton nods to Chadd. Kerl nods to Chadd. Wanton says, "But TSC isn't the only node in town." Chadd says, "Alright, thank you." You rub your chin thoughtfully. Axxe asks, "others in town?" Wanton says, "There's one inside the temple." Lyle nods. You nod to Wanton. You smile. Graefin asks, "Is the crypt in the graveyard a node, or just a safe area?" Lyle says, "Waysides Inn, outside the gate, has one or two floating around." Chadd says, "There is one also at the Inn" Lyle nods. Lyle says, "Many of the exclusive Houses have them; things like Paupers and Arcane." Wanton says, "Every house has at least one node." Wanton smiles at Lyle. Wanton says, "exclusive.. heh." Lyle says, "Well, not Paupers." Lyle grins. Axxe nods. Kerl says, "Hearthstone foyer and legends hall are nodes, some of the other rooms there too" Wanton says, "There is also a node by the stump, just down the steps from Hearthstone manor." (Chadd raises his hand again) Wanton smiles at Chadd. Wanton says, "Just speak out." Lord Emeraldwand just arrived. Emeraldwand waves. Wanton smiles at Emeraldwand. Emeraldwand asks, "Can I join in?" You smile at Emeraldwand. Ingrid bows to Emeraldwand. Wanton says, "Of course." Wanton grins. Chadd asks, "Will you also clear your mind faster if you sit or lie down? And if so, do you clear faster if lying instead of sitting?" Kerl says, "a special guest" Emeraldwand says, "I'll offer the hobbit, wizard, and tart perspectives on things" Ingrid clasps Emeraldwand's hand tenderly. Kerl smiles at Emeraldwand. Ingrid asks, "For young warriors?" Chadd grins. Flamefoot grins. Ingrid glances at Emeraldwand. Wanton says, "No. sitting, lying, kneeling or standing on your head. It doesn't matter." Wanton smiles at Chadd. Emeraldwand nods to Ingrid. Kerl looks over at Chadd and shakes his head. Emeraldwand gazes in wonder at his surroundings. Lyle says, "Only whether you're on or off a node matters." Wanton nods to Lyle. Caerlin asks, "how do you stand on your head?" Chadd says, "Alright, thank you." Emeraldwand looks over at Wanton and shakes his head. (Chadd thinks its a warrior skill...) Lyle says, "At very high Logic and Intelligence stat values, you'll actually absorb the same amount whether you are on or off the node..." You say, "And smooth stones don't do a thing." Chadd stands up. Lyle says, "But most warriors don't see that." Ingrid says, "I guess I live in the old lands of rumors and mystery...we were always told lying down stance offensive with nothing in your hands on a node was the best way to clear your head..." Lyle grins. Emeraldwand nods to Lyle. Emeraldwand says, "I can almost do that" Chadd sits down. Wanton grins. Chadd says, "I do that and still absorb slowly..." Wanton nods to Chadd. Darrious chuckles. Ingrid exclaims, "Join the giantman warrior club, Chadd!" Axxe asks, "how much do the nodes speed up absorbtion?" Chadd grins. Graefin says, "Holding a sword in your hand will make you absorb slower. At least thats what Thrak says" Wanton says, "The more fried you are, the more you'll absorb each pulse too." Emeraldwand gazes in wonder at his surroundings. Emeraldwand grins. Wanton says, "I have a high logic and intelligence, like I said before, but if I'm just at fresh and clear, then I only absorb like 10 per pulse.. but when fried, I absord 33 or maybe 34 for now per pulse." Emeraldwand says, "Thrak is too old for his own good" Graefin grins. Wanton says, "And I think a pulse (for whoever asked earlier) is every two minutes." Graefin says, "I've noticed" Ingrid says, "I believe Axxe had a question for you number gatherers..." Wanton says, "Though they might have randomized it when they randomized the pulses for mana return." Lyle raises his hand. Emeraldwand says, "20 seconds up or 20 seconds down" Lyle says, "There is actually an experience pulse a minute after each mana pulse." Emeraldwand says, "And the experience and spirit pulses are half of the mana pulses" Emeraldwand nods to Lyle. Lyle says, "The mana pulses are 2 minutes, plus or minus the uncertainty factor." Wanton says, "Ahhh." Wanton smiles at Lyle. Ingrid asks, "Perhaps you could repeat your question, Axxe?" Wanton says, "Thank you." Axxe says, "ehh.. what question was it? :)" Kerl grins. Lyle says, "Nodes can, at most, double the experience you absorb." Ingrid says, "What the difference a node made on absorbtion..." Emeraldwand says, "At most" Axxe says, "ahh that.. yes, thanks." Emeraldwand asks, "Can I bring out the formula?" Emeraldwand bounces around happily. Wanton nods to Emeraldwand. Wanton says, "Yes, we love formulas at this seminar." Wanton grins. You grin. Lyle says, "However, if your Logic and Intelligence scores are high enough, you will only absorb slightly faster." Chadd says, "I dislike these formulas, gets complicated for someone new..." Chadd grins. Emeraldwand says, "INT(Amount in Bucket/(50-INT(Level/6))) + 12. " Emeraldwand says, "Is how much ya absorb on a node" Emeraldwand says, "Amount in bucket is how much ya got in your mind" Lyle says, "As I mentioned earlier, at very high values, you won't see ANY increase in absorption speed." Emeraldwand says, "Int means make it an integer" Ingrid says, "Next seminar when we discuss hunting areas...we won't be discussing formulas and numbers too much so have at it..." Kerl says, "oof" You blink. Chadd asks, "When is this next seminar?" Wanton says, "Well, do what I do, Chadd. Write it down, go home, think about what was said, mull over the formula and when you're more experienced, suddenly it will be understandable." Wanton winks at Chadd. You mutter something about numbers. Chadd says, "I was waiting for the hunting all this time" Chadd grins. Ingrid says, "Well when we schedule it of course..." Ingrid winks at Chadd. Ingrid says, "Nah...tonight is just statistics and basic skills..." Emeraldwand says, "Hey, at least I wasn't the one who figured it out" Emeraldwand mumbles something that you don't quite catch. Darrious chuckles. You grin. Axxe asks, "this is a sensitive question..don't want to offend, but.. will the lag monster slow absorbtion?" Chadd grins. Chadd shakes his head. Wanton says, "Well.. since we have a small group, we might be able to go out on a hunt afterwards." Wanton smiles. Chadd says, "I don't htink so" Emeraldwand says, "Lag might make you miss the experience pulse" Wanton glances at Emeraldwand. Lyle shakes his head. Lyle says, "It happens to you..." Lyle grins. Lyle says, "You just don't SEE it until thirty seconds later." Graefin asks, "Speaking of numbers, what would you suggest for the initial total before bonuses are added 620+?" Wanton says, "The only way you would miss a pulse would be to be out of the game during the pulse." Emeraldwand mumbles something that you don't quite catch. You rub your chin thoughtfully. Emeraldwand asks, "Do you mean when you're rolling Graefin?" Graefin nods. Wanton says, "620+ is reasonable, Graefin. Some people say to wait until at least 640+.. I personally got lucky and got a 661." Ingrid says, "That depends...I think alot of us older warriors took something like a 570 and were happy to get it..." Graefin raises an eyebrow. Emeraldwand says, "I know Mustafo is doing fine with a 560" Ingrid says, "And we climbed up hill both ways to the training grounds..." Graefin nods. Wanton says, "but 620+ can make you a very viable warrior." Kerl nods to Ingrid. You chuckle at Ingrid. Emeraldwand says, "620 is more then enough" Wanton begins chuckling at Ingrid. Kerl says, "I wasn't even paying attention" Wanton says, "in the snow.. barefoot." Graefin says, "makes me feel better" Wanton just tickled Ingrid. Emeraldwand says, "40 miles to our hobbity holes" Wanton says, "Let me point out that when I got the 661, I was looking for 640+." You say, "I'd say 620 is a good number.. if you've got a lot of time on your hands you can go for more." Wanton nods to Kerl. Emeraldwand gazes in wonder at his surroundings. Ingrid says, "To be honest, Graefin...I started in the old days and my numbers are lousy...but I enjoy myself and that's the prime objective..." Wanton rubs Kerl gently. Xanith just arrived. Emeraldwand nods to Ingrid. Emeraldwand says, "Definately" Graefin smiles. Emeraldwand blinks. Emeraldwand leans on Xanith. The white light leaves Ronnie. The very powerful look leaves Ronnie. Wanton nods to Emeraldwand. Emeraldwand nods to Ingrid. Ingrid says, "Ok next statistic is....STrength..." Darrious chuckles. Wanton asks, "Ok.. any other questions about Logic or Intelligence?" Ingrid throws her head back and howls! Wanton smiles at Ingrid. Ingrid exclaims, "My favorite!" You grin. Emeraldwand winks at Xanith. Wanton exclaims, "Oh.. one more thing!" Wanton just nudged Ingrid. Caerlin just left. Wanton says, "Intelligence is used in learning forging." Emeraldwand exclaims, "My Strength Stat is!" Emeraldwand says, "A grand total of 42" Ingrid says, "Oh sure rub in the fact that I suck at forging..." Ingrid just nudged Wanton. Emeraldwand asks, "Ever see me swing a sword?" Kerl just left. Xanith begins to twitch. Wanton smiles. Emeraldwand asks, "Speaking of forging....isn't it a bit overdue?" Darrious asks, "strength what is that?" Wanton says, "Intelligence isn't used in forging itself.. but it is used in learning how to forge." Wanton looks over at Xanith and shakes her head. (Xanith wails and whimpers at the sound of the word forging) Wanton says, "So when those forges open, you can start learning." Emeraldwand says, "Strength is how hard ya hit, how much you can hold, and how fast you swing" Wanton smiles. Emeraldwand says, "Among other things" Wanton says, "For more on forging, check out the message boards... and Lord Tsoran's site has a log of the forging forum." Darrious says, "halflings are too weak" Darrious chuckles. Wanton says, "Now I'm done with the Intelligence portion. I just had to throw that in for folks." Wanton smiles. You say, "I know a few very dangerous halfling warriors, Darrious." You grin. Wanton winks at Emeraldwand. Emeraldwand winks at Wanton. Darrious says, "hope to be one some day" Ingrid nods to Lyle. (Lyle accepts a small, rather tattered, green paper rectangle from Ingrid.) Emeraldwand sighs. Emeraldwand gazes in wonder at his surroundings. Lyle grins. Emeraldwand winks. (Ingrid quietly applies more pressure to Lyle's foot.) Wanton grins. Lyle says, "Moving on to Strength.." Emeraldwand leans against a bright yellow sign. Wanton begins chuckling at Axxe. Lyle says, "Probably the most important of all the stats for a Warrior." Ingrid says, "I love strength...but if you want numbers...Lyle is the man of the hour..." Emeraldwand gestures and utters a phrase of magic. Emeraldwand gestures. Emeraldwand looks considerably more imposing. Emeraldwand says, "Strength" Emeraldwand nods. Axxe grins. Lyle says, "As Emeraldwand said, it determines how hard you hit." Lyle nods to Emeraldwand. Ingrid snorts at Emeraldwand. Xanith just left. . Xanith just arrived. Axxe says, "ahh" Lyle says, "That's straight out of the bonus, and adds directly to your Attack Strength (or AS)." Lyle says, "It, in concert with Constitution and your race, affects how much you can carry." Wanton rubs a crystal amulet. Wanton gets an odd look on her face. Wanton rubs a crystal amulet. Emeraldwand says, "Which for me, is nothing" Chadd just left. Emeraldwand says, "I had trouble stealing all of Kodos' tarts last night" Emeraldwand whimpers. Wanton grins. Lyle says, "It indirectly affects your swing time, though. It affects how much you can carry, which will determine whether you're slowed by the weight, and then again Dexterity and Reflex may help out with that as we discussed earlier." Flamefoot becomes solid again. (Lyle didn't do much "discussing"; mostly he just talked a lot.) Wanton grins. (Emeraldwand thinks Lyle was probably droning on, but he won't say that out loud) Lyle nods to Emeraldwand. Axxe asks, "if your strength is 100 with 40 on the right.. will the strength go above 100?" Lyle shakes his head. You grin. Lyle says, "Nope; no stat will increase above 100." Axxe nods. Lyle says, "However, the 40 (because you're a giantman) will add to your AS." Emeraldwand says, "Which is why you might want to put Strength a little lower" Emeraldwand says, "It'll go up fast" Lyle says, "Your AS is the _skill_ that you have in the weapon you're swinging." Axxe says, "it's 100 now" Lyle removes a lance from inside his clasped backpack. Lyle says, "If I'm holding a lance, training in Brawling won't help me at all." Emeraldwand asks, "You people aren't going to do 'demonstrations' on me like the sorcerers right?" Axxe begins chuckling at Emeraldwand. Lyle says, "On the other hand, if I'm not holding ANY weapons, then all the skill in the world in Pole Arms won't help at all either." Lyle says, "No matter what weapon you're swinging, though, your Strength stat bonus adds to your AS." Lyle put a lance inside his clasped backpack. Wanton says, "And if you're holding ale, all the skill in the world in all weapons, won't help." Wanton grins. Emeraldwand just nudged Axxe. Wanton looks over at Emeraldwand and shakes her head. Emeraldwand nods to Lyle. Wanton takes a drink from her dwarven ale. Lyle says, "I guess we may as well talk about Attack Strength (AS) for a bit, since we deal so much with it." Lyle grins. Wanton just hugged Axxe. Lyle says, "When you train in a weapon type, you'll gain ranks in it as well as skill." Axxe waves. Axxe grins. Axxe just left. Lyle says, "Ranks don't really do anything much, beyond help with DF Reduction which we mentioned earlier." Emeraldwand gazes in wonder at his surroundings. Wanton sits down. Wanton grins. Lyle says, "That skill, plus your strength stat bonus, is the most that you can have for an AS." Wanton coughs. Lyle says, "Another skill, Combat Maneuvers, can add to it as well." Wanton says, "Combat Manuevers." Wanton nods. Ingrid says, "So double training in your chosen weapons is very important..." Lyle says, "Every two (2) ranks in CM will give you one (1) point of AS also." Emeraldwand says, "And at least singling in Combat Manuvers is also very important" Emeraldwand says, "Most opt to double" Lyle says, "You can have tart-grabbing shorties like Emeraldwand enchant your weapons, also." Lyle just tickled Emeraldwand. Emeraldwand leans on Lyle. Graefin says, "l at emera" Wanton says, "Gods yes! I once read a warrior guide that told warriors to train until they had +100 in a weapon type and then switch weapon types.. and stop training in the first one." Graefin says, "ack" Wanton exclaims, "Dont' do that!" Emeraldwand says, "I at emera also" You blink. Emeraldwand says, "I ate mera also" Wanton coughs. Lyle says, "I never "at emera"; might hurt him." You chuckle. Wanton says, "Always continue to double your training in your main weapon. Never stop." Emeraldwand winks at Lyle. Lyle nods to Wanton. Lyle nods to Wanton. Lyle nods to Wanton. Emeraldwand says, "Or if you're me, never start" Lyle says, "You might want to train in more than one weapon type, also." Emeraldwand says, "But you're not me, so always double-train" Lyle says, "Flexibility due to inexpensive weapon skills is one of the Warrior's strengths." Wanton says, "Emeraldwand, your main weapon is your aimed spell, right? I assume you always double in that skill." Wanton smiles at Emeraldwand. Lyle says, "No-one else can train in several different kinds of weapons as cheaply." Ingrid says, "Training in more than one weapon type can give you some variations against differing critters when you get older..." Wanton nods to Lyle. Emeraldwand nods to Wanton. Lyle nods to Ingrid. Emeraldwand says, "But in weapons, never trained" Wanton grins. Wanton says, "But that's also another seminar... weapon types." You smile. Lyle says, "Ahh." Wanton rubs Xanith gently. Lyle nods to Wanton. Lyle says, "Then I won't go into it too much." Lyle grins. Wanton nods to Lyle. Lyle says, "So, you take your skill with your weapon, add in half of your RANKS in Combat Maneuvers, and throw in your Strength stat bonus." Emeraldwand asks, "I've heard that warriors should double train in both brawling and their main weapon type...any truth to that?" Lyle says, "That's your AS, or Attack Strength." Darrious chuckles. Lyle says, "Only if you want to be able to fight bare-handed, Emeraldwand." Ingrid says, "Brawling is nice...course I'm a brawler..." Wanton says, "and that'd be the training seminar." Emeraldwand nods. Wanton grins. Ingrid says, "let's see...what's next...we already discussed Reflexes..." Ingrid says, "Charisma..." Ingrid rubs her chin thoughtfully. You smile. Ingrid says, "Charisma..." Ingrid says, "Merchants tend to favor the beautiful and charming..." Emeraldwand asks, "What does Charisma do anyway?" Ingrid shrugs. Lyle says, "It can help you wheedle a little bit of a price break out of certain kind-hearted merchants." Wanton says, "It let's you slip into hiding more easily." Lyle says, "Though not much." Lyle grins. Lyle nods to Wanton. Ingrid says, "Let's just say Charisma tends to be the dumping ground for low scores for warriors..." Emeraldwand says, "If you have a lower charisma you can hide better" Darrious says, "bah warriors not supposed to be beautiful and charming" Lyle says, "Only if it's LOW, though." Wanton says, "It affects how well you can do war cries." You nod to Wanton. Ingrid asks, "Charisma does?" Emeraldwand says, "I can't think of one class other then bards that puts charisma higher then the last 9th or 10th" Wanton nods to Lyle. Ingrid asks, "So a higher charisma helps to do war cries on others?" Ingrid says, "No wonder I didn't do well in war cries..." Wanton says, "That's what I've heard, but Kerl's the warcry expert." Ingrid rubs her chin thoughtfully. Lyle nods. Lyle says, "Charisma is to War Cry what Discipline is to Berserk." Ingrid says, "Kerl had to leave..." Wanton nods to Lyle. Lyle says, "High bonuses there (again, the stat doesn't matter; just the bonus) make it easier." Emeraldwand says, "As hobbits are to tarts" Emeraldwand says, "or vice versa" Ingrid asks, "Anything else to be said about Charisma?" Emeraldwand removes a warm rum raisin tart from inside his spidersilk backpack. Wanton says, "Anyway. The point is the higher your charisma, the better you are at war cries." Lyle says, "A dwarf does well in Berserk, due to high discipline... but is lousy at War Cry, due to being dog ugly." Lyle coughs. You grin. Wanton says, "You shouldn't be insulting dogs like that." Ingrid says, "Giantmen are better at tackle...as we tend to fall on people naturally..." Lyle nods to Wanton. You chuckle at Wanton. (Xanith winces at that thought) Emeraldwand seems a bit less imposing. Wanton says, "And that was a joke, for the humor impaired." Lyle chuckles. Ingrid grins. Emeraldwand says, "Titaniia fell on me once" Ingrid asks, "Ok...any questions about Charisma?" Wanton says, "Any questions about.." Wanton glances at Ingrid. Emeraldwand says, "Lost many a limb that day" Ingrid asks, "Is there anyone still awake?" Wanton whistles tunelessly to herself. Darrious chuckles. Emeraldwand says, "I musta bored 'em all" Wanton points at Darrious. Ronnie grins. Wanton says, "Heh... yes.. they're not all asleep." Darrious asks, "what?" Ingrid says, "Good...a couple are still with us..." Graefin mumbles something that you don't quite catch. Ingrid says, "Wisdom is left...let's just say I'm not the person to speak to about that either..." Ingrid glances at Lyle. Lyle grins. Darrious grins. Emeraldwand says, "Wisdom--is mostly for warding magics" Wanton says, "For those warriors that like to disarm traps and pick locks... wisdom helps with that." You nod to Wanton. Lyle says, "For a warrior, the only practical effect Wisdom has on you is warding off certain Spirit type spells, and boxes." Lyle nods. Lyle says, "Both of which were already said." Lyle grins. Ingrid asks, "I'm a Viking...I'm disciplined, strong, well built and good reflexes...what do I need with Intelligence and Wisdom?" Emeraldwand gestures and utters a phrase of magic. Ronnie asks, "isnt that whay you tackle rogues for?" Emeraldwand gestures. CS: +154 - TD: +110 + CvA: +14 + d100: +64 - +50 == +72 Warded off! Emeraldwand is unaffected. Wanton smiles at Ronnie. Lyle nods to Ronnie. Emeraldwand says, "Wisdom helps with those things" Wanton says, "I always prefer to have a professional open my boxes." Wanton nods to Ronnie. Xanith asks, "Wouldn't wisdom be helpful if you plan on bein a bashin warrior when yer in de guild?" Emeraldwand takes a bite of his raisin tart. Ingrid says, "If you do your own disarming...yes" (Brief Puntage) You mutter something inaudible. Darrious says, "dang weather" Ingrid asks, "Ok...any other questions on Wisdom?" Emeraldwand gazes in wonder at his surroundings. Kerl just arrived. Emeraldwand nods to Xanith. Kerl gibbers incoherently. Graefin furrows his brow. Ingrid says, "Last but not least is Aura...which I know we discussed earlier with Discipline in that it is important in that it adds to both Physical and Mental training points..." Wanton nods to Ingrid. Wanton says, "It also determines how much mana you get." Wanton says, "And it determines your spirit points." Emeraldwand says, "Aura is incredibly important for any class" Wanton says, "Aura dividid by 10, rounded up equals your spirit." You check your footing. Graefin checks his footing. Emeraldwand checks his footing. Emeraldwand coughs. Graefin says, "looks fine to me" Emeraldwand says, "It helps with elemental magics also" Emeraldwand gestures and utters a phrase of magic. Emeraldwand gestures. CS: +154 - TD: +110 + CvA: +14 + d100: +54 - +50 == +62 Warded off! Emeraldwand is unaffected. Emeraldwand nods to Kerl. Emeraldwand says, "Helps with that kinda thing" You say, "It grows slowly." You scratch your head. Wanton grins. Ingrid says, "Ok...let's get down to questions..." Emeraldwand takes a bite of his raisin tart. Graefin gazes in wonder at his surroundings. Ingrid says, "You got 5 experienced warriors here just dying to answer some questions..." Wanton says, "Just fire away with any questions you have about any stats." Graefin surveys the area. Kerl chuckles. Graefin asks, "Whats your take on training in scroll reading?" Wanton grins. Lyle says, "Depends on how likely you think it is to find useful spells." Kerl smiles. Emeraldwand says, "Not as important as mana share" Kerl says, "I find it very usefull" Darrious says, "i am more interested in def reduction" Lyle says, "For instance, there are spells that will help you find a trap, or pick a lock..." Ingrid says, "Well I train in when I get extra points as I'd like to get past the runestone to the moon sooner than if you don't have any...but it isn't a prime training skill for me.." Lyle says, "But if you don't know HOW to disarm a trap or pick a lock, they won't help you." Kimber raises her hand. Wanton smiles at Kimber. Wanton says, "Just ask whatever you want to ask. We're not so many folks here that you need to raise your hand." Lyle says, "If you find scrolls with protective spells in them, or buy them (many travelling merchants carry some)... it can be downright handy." Wanton says, "Though it is appreciated that you remembered our request at the beginning of the seminar." Kimber asks, "what of two weapon training?" Kerl says, "I just have a general rule of thumb of not using mental points for physical skills, so I train in scroll reading, and it's helpfull" Kimber asks, "is it a viable path for a warrior?" You rub your chin thoughtfully. Emeraldwand says, "A main gauge in one hand isn't too bad" Lyle says, "Personally, I think a Rogue pulls it off better; the strike from hiding being deadly works very well." Kimber asks, "a gauche?" Kimber just tickled Emeraldwand. Darrious asks, "is it possible to ambush with a pole arm?" Emeraldwand leans on Xanith. Lyle says, "Depends on the pole arm; in general, if you're hidden when you swing it, you fall out of hiding and then swing." Lyle says, "They're pretty clumsy." Emeraldwand says, "Its a shield weapon for two-handed users" Lyle says, "One thing about Two-Weapon training..." Kimber peers quizzically at Lyle. Lyle says, "Your left-hand weapon AS (Attack Strength) will be the LOWER OF your skill in Two Weapons, and the weapon type you're swinging." Flamefoot nods. Wanton nods to Lyle. Lyle says, "If I were holding a broadsword and a dagger, my skill in Edged weapons would be looked at." Flamefoot nods. Darrious asks, "what is a good beginners pole arm?" Lyle says, "If I had 200 skill in Edged, and 100 skill in Two-Weapon.." Wanton smiles at Lyle. Lyle says, "My left-hand skill would be 100, but my right would be 200." Kimber nods. Flamefoot nods. Lyle says, "For a young pole arm, probably the best is a lance." Lyle says, "Reason for that is, even though it takes a LONG time to swing..." Darrious says, "dang it is too heavy" Lyle says, "Pretty much anything you tag with it is going down." Flamefoot grins. Lyle says, "Sheer damage." Kerl appears somehow different. Kerl grins. Lyle says, "I'd say that there are very few creatures below the age of about 8 that will require a second full-Offensive stance attack with a lance." Graefin asks, "How can you increase your DS in stance offensive?" Kerl smiles at Graefin. Darrious asks, "can you get a lance outside the gate at the clearing?" Lyle points at Emeraldwand. Lyle says, "Only by means of spells." Graefin asks, "Does shield training factor in at all?" Graefin nods. Kimber nods to Graefin. Graefin says, "Thats what I thought" Wanton says, "You can only do that with enchanted armor, enchanted shield (or regular shield if you're not using one at all) and a higher Reflex bonus." Lyle says, "Either permanent ones, such as by having your Armor Enchanted..." Lyle says, "Or temporary ones being cast for a hunt." Lyle nods. Wanton nods to Lyle. Lyle says, "Shield use has an affect, but it is MUCH less in Offensive stance than in others." Wanton says, "Heh. Spells, I wasn't thinking about those." Lyle says, "It's about a quarter what it is in Defensive." Kerl says, "shield training why not just go to hobs or something" Kerl says, "err" Kerl says, "oof, mixed up me words" Graefin nods. Kerl says, "I was going to say that shield training helps your defense a great deal, though not so much in offensive" Lyle nods to Kerl. Ingrid asks, "any other questions?" Darrious asks, "does anyone know of any halfling warrior guides?" Graefin asks, "Besides Emeraldwand, do the rest of ye think training in mana sharing is important?" Darrious chuckles. Wanton says, "No, but we do know some halfling warriors." Lyle asks, "Someone had asked me earlier about Pole Arms... Did you want to just whisper back and forth about that?" Ingrid says, "I couldn't share a mana if I tried..." Kerl says, "I know of a halfling warrior who would be happy to help you out probably" Wanton says, "Shattyn is one. And Helden Hall has a halfling warrior by the name of Liliea." Kerl nods to Wanton. Lyle says, "I remember Shattyn." Lyle grins. Lyle asks, "He's up in Pinefar a lot now, isn't he?" You say, "I don't train in manashare..." You say, "Because I dislike using magics to hunt. But there are some who swear by it." Darrious says, "thanks" Kerl says, "Shattyn is my step son, halfling warrior who carries a nasty claid" Wanton says, "I don't train in mana sharing at all, Graefin. But that's because I use my mental points for spells. And I would never suggest a warrior train in spells." Lyle grins. Wanton says, "I do plan on getting some mana sharing at a later date though." Wanton smiles at Graefin. Ingrid says, "I personally feel that mana share is only if you got extra training points...and you really like to share with mages for spells..." Lyle nods. Xanith says, "Sharing trainin is so darned expensive" Wanton says, "Never put aside warrior skill training for something like mana share (or spells, for that matter)." Wanton nods to Ingrid. Lyle nods to Xanith. Kerl says, "I find mana share to be exceptionally usefull, but that goes beyond my being a warrior" Kerl says, "I'm married to a mage, and I like to share what I have with her" Ingrid says, "That's cuz he's married to a mage and it's a bonding type thing..." Kerl smiles. Flamefoot chuckles. Kerl nods to Ingrid. Wanton nods. Darrious stretches. Lyle says, "I think he just likes to see the sparks when he looks at her." Lyle smiles innocently. Ingrid nods to Lyle. Ronnie giggles. Kerl grins. You grin. Ingrid asks, "Any other questions?" Ingrid asks, "MOst of you have been very quiet...are there any specific questions you have that you would feel more comfortable whispering about?" Emeraldwand says, "Well, hope I helped a bit" Emeraldwand winks. Emeraldwand waves. Emeraldwand just left. Graefin asks, "I know I have long since gone completely away from the topic, but what about ambushing?" Ronnie says, "I was quiet long enough ya answerd all my questions" Ronnie giggles. Wanton grins. Kerl smiles at Graefin. Flamefoot nods. Wanton says, "Excellent, Ronnie." Wanton takes a drink from her dwarven ale. Kerl says, "I find that ambush is quite valuable... but it's mostly a philisophical question for most folks" Kimber asks, "If my ultimate goal was to be able to be able to swing two weapons after I gain redux, would I be better suited singling in shield or training in climbing or swimming?" Wanton says, "Graefin, on ambushing..." Wanton says, "Ambush skill helps in three ways..." Wanton says, "one, it's a DFRedux skill.. so it adds to your ability to absorb hits and take less damage when you're older..." Ingrid says, "I believe statistically...single training is best cost wise in the long run...but that's just someone said to me once...as I never train in shields..." Lyle says, "If your goal is to swing two weapons, you're better of getting a single rank in EACH shield, climb, and swim (because they're inexpensive) than doubling anything." Wanton says, "two, it helps in aiming your blows." Lyle says, "Since you won't be holding a shield all that much, you don't want to put all that much effort into it." Wanton says, "So you can aim a hit at a troll's leg and take it down." Lyle says, "And this would get you three ranks rather than two, for DF Reduction." Lyle says, "And help you get into or out of nasty areas, like the mountain gorge in Pinefar or the cliff out of Claedesbrim." Lyle says, "And if you are swinging two weapons, Wanton's arguments about Ambush apply, also." Lyle says, "In fact, you'll have TWO chances to hit the same area, and possibly kill the critter." Kerl asks, "number three is ambushing from hiding Wanton?" Kimber says, "it's pretty much a choice between singling in shield or singling in either swim or climb, nae doubling in shield or singling in all" Graefin nods to Wanton. Graefin stands up. Wanton coughs. Kerl says, "some warrior's don't think it's warrior-like to hunt from the shadows, but it's very much a personal choice" Ingrid nods. Ingrid says, "I personally don't find the honor in it myself...but to each their own..." Kerl says, "I find it quite usefull though I can't hide well enough to do it all the time" You nod to Ingrid. Kerl says, "but I don't always want to do it anyway" Darrious asks, "if you swing two weapons is it better to go with edged and a main gauche?" Kerl says, "it just helps to give me the edge in certain situations" Lyle says, "Main gauche is currently the only weapon that will confer DS when it's in your left hand." Wanton says, "Three was ambushing from hiding without aiming.. yes, Kerl." Lyle says, "Certain weapons called "Defender" weapons, that give you DS even when you're not protecting yourself by stance, also work." Kimber asks, "I'd heard that as yer two weapon training skill increases, ye can swing larger weapons in yer offhand without additional roundtime, is there truth to that?" Kerl says, "even with aiming you get the same benefit from hiding" Lyle says, "But the main gauche is the better one to use." Lyle says, "Kimber, I've heard the same rumour. I'm afraid that I can't speak to the facts." Kimber nods. Wanton says, "Kimber if you come to the next warrior seminar, we'll try and have Hyoko here to answer that question. He's skilled in using two weapons." Lyle says, "All weapons have a base DS of 0; the main gauche has a base DS of 15. Sort of like a shield, only different." Lyle says, "Shields can help deflect fire bolt and other type spells, though; a puny dagger like the main gauche won't." Kimber nods to Wanton. Kerl says, "bear in mind it doesn't help against those pesky fireballs" Kerl nods to Lyle. (Lyle thinks he and Kerl fight the same sort of style...) Axxe just arrived. Kerl grins. Ingrid says, "Yah...but it's like two handed users...we just grin and take it..." Lyle says, "Or at least worry about the same things." Lyle nods to Ingrid. You grin. Ingrid says, "Actually it's more like grin, fry and take it..." Flamefoot chuckles. Wanton smiles at Axxe. Ingrid asks, "Two halfling warriors here?" Ingrid glances at Flamefoot. Ingrid glances at Darrious. Wanton rubs a crystal amulet. Axxe nods to Wanton. Flamefoot smiles. Flamefoot nods. Lyle grins. Ingrid says, "There we go then..." Ingrid says, "Darrious...let me introduce you to Flamefoot..." Ingrid says, "Now ya know another halfling warrior..." Ingrid just tickled Darrious. Darrious bows to Flamefoot. Flamefoot chuckles. Flamefoot bows to Darrious. Ingrid asks, "Anymore questions?" Lyle grins. Axxe says, "so same with my claid.. have to be patient to get the RT down." Lyle says, "Before you folks head out... for let me say thank you for staying the course and hearing me babble." Lyle grins. Ingrid nods to Wanton. Flamefoot grins. Kerl smiles at Lyle. You grin. Kimber smiles. Darrious grins. Lyle says, "Also, I wanted to point out that there's a Tour this evening, I believe at 9:30, hosted by a couple of our GameHosts here." Darrious stretches. Axxe says, "I want to thank you all for sharing your knowledge. Very helpful." Ingrid says, "Actually...The Order of the Lorekeepers and each of us...wants to thank you for taking part in this rather long seminar...but we hope it was helpful...and when we have our next one that you will come back to learn more..." Lyle says, "They should announce it, and you would type "tour join" to get some pointers in non-Warrior-specific things." Axxe bows. Wanton stands up. Axxe stands up. Darrious stands up. Flamefoot stands up. Wanton says, "Oh.. one more thing.. before you leave here..." Lyle says, "Like how to move around; shopping; other basics." Wanton smiles. Lyle grins. Axxe just tickled Wanton. Lyle says, "Rumour has it they've got brief combat pointers, also." Wanton says, "First, please tell us how we could have made this seminar better... what you liked and disliked... you can whisper it to Perivan and he'll take notes and pass them out to us..." Wanton grins. You smile. Ronnie stands up. Kerl covers his eyes with his hands. Ingrid says, "I did want to thank you all for how patient and respectful you were in questioning...I'll make sure I rub it in the sorcerer's noses..." Wanton says, "Second thing is... if you want to go out on a hunt, stick around, and we'll take you out for a little slaughtering too." Flamefoot giggles. Lyle whispers, "Don't let Lyle talk so much; he's boring." You chuckle at Lyle. Axxe whispers, "it was excellent.. no ideas for improvement." Ingrid says, "Oh sure Wanton..." Ingrid says, "Tell them to whisper it into a giantman's ear...only one or maybe two will be able to reach it..." Wanton asks, "What?" Wanton grins. Darrious chuckles. You blink. Axxe says, "first on agenda. How to get out of this room? :)" Wanton says, "Well, he's the one that's taking notes this evening anyway." Ingrid says, "Oh gads...he's human..." Lyle grins. Wanton points out. Lyle points out. Ingrid shudders. Wanton says, "You go out." Wanton just tickled Axxe. You poke Ingrid in the ribs. Axxe bows. Axxe waves. Axxe just went out. Ingrid says, "I always noticed a strange odor...but never placed it..." Ingrid says, "Now I know..." Ronnie says, "nothin wrong with humans" You quietly sniff at yourself. You *think* you smell okay, but then, doesn't everybody? Ronnie just tickled Ingrid. Ronnie grins. Flamefoot chuckles. Wanton smiles. Kerl stares at Ingrid. Flamefoot curtsies. Flamefoot waves. Flamefoot just went out. Ingrid rubs her chin thoughtfully. Ingrid says, "Give me a second I'll think of something..." Ingrid just tickled Ronnie. Kerl mutters something about big-uglies. Ronnie giggles. Wanton shrugs. (End Log)
