Abilities: Banshees can scream, simultaneously warding every person in the room, including those hidden or invisible. Failing by a little results in a light stun, while failing by more than 20 or so causes you to drop what you are carrying, and fall prone and stunned, while the banshee instantly attacks you. Hidden/invisible characters who successfully make the warding roll will remain hidden or invisible, and if someone fails badly enough that they stop, drop, an' roll, the banshee will cease screaming. In addition, they will sometimes instantly go invisible when swung at, and will sometimes instantly raise their TD and elemental DS by 100 when cast at. This defense can be dispelled with 417.

If they hit you with the fist pound, they do a lava/fire crit and immediately hit again, with a +25 higher AS, either until they miss, or a total of three times, I think.

Will suck an e-blade off of a weapon. Weapons which are not ebladed or possessing of natural cold crits will heat up as you attack, until you are eventually faced with a weapon that is both too hot to hold, and will not fit in a normal container.

If either the fist pound or lava blobs hit an area covered by armor, that armor will begin to heat up. Successive hits will cause your armor to superheat, damaging you quite badly.

Spells: Lots. Mostly defensive spells that a sorcerer would cast, such as Elemental Barrier, Elemental Defense II and III, Spirit Warding, Lesser Shroud, and Spirit Defense. Many cast Mobility, and I've known at least one to cast Warding Sphere. The most common offensive spells they use are web, unbalance, ewave, maelstrom, and implosion. They've been known to cast spikethorn as well. Note that devils' maelstroms, implosions, and ewaves will affect lizards, shoots, and wasps in the area, but not other devils.

A few notes about the 'storms.

Storms automatically start when a devil is in a room, but there will not be more than one storm per room, no matter how many devils are present.

Each sandstorm is 'owned' by a particular devil. If that devil leaves the room or is killed, the sandstorm will dissipate on its next cycle, to be replaced if another devil is present. The new storm in this case would start over at the first cycle.

Storms operate on their own 'timer', slightly slower than that governing a devil's movement, and they cause damage at the beginning of each cycle, provided the devil who owns it is still present.

Storms do not cause damage until their third round of existence, needing time to build up.

Once they are going, they will generally cause a -15 AS penalty after they hit you.

Typically, the last devil in the list, i.e. the first devil that entered the room, is the owner of the current storm, but this is not infalliable.

Age and encumberance were the main factors in avoiding the storms, and CM and armor padding helped to a lesser degree, but they have recently been tweaked to be <b>much</b> stronger, and injure people much older than devils. CM appears to play a large factor, now.

Sandstorms only affect people, not other critters that might be present.

Name: The underlined word is what the parser wants to see to attack the critter. For instance, to attack a giant fog beetle, you would <attack beetle>.

Level: The level of the critter, obviously. A 'U' indicates Undead.

Attack Strength: Some critters are smart, and stance dance just like we do. This represents the highest number I saw for a critter's attack. Keep in mind that some attack styles are worse than others. Ensnares do little damage in my experience, while a fist pound (often marked by 'pnd') tends to do lots of damage, and has a much higher AvD. And a spell AS will not be parryable with your blade.

Defensive Strength: This is a critter's DS against a blade, not necessarily against an aimed spell. It represents the lowest number I saw for a critter's defense, and does not usually take into account the use of a shield, especially where there is a variety of the critter that uses a two handed weapon. If the critter is carrying a shield, it will add +20. A turtled critter (one that is in full defensive stance) is likely to have a much higher defense.

Casting Strength: This is usually a critter's casting strength with warding spells. It represents the highest number I've seen for said critter.

Target Defense: This is a critter's normal defense against warding spells. It represents in most cases the lowest number I saw, not taking into account certain things that lower TD, like Dark Catalyst, Elemental Saturation, Curses, etc., and was probably tested with Elemental Blast (409), the only warding spell I have.

Health Points: Not listed for most critters, as I only slowly but surely put them in. This is usually either a working range, or an approximation that is +/- 10 hp, unless an exact number is given (i.e., 18 hp for giant rats).

Crittable: Whether the critter can be killed by crit-wounds. A simple, made-it-myself scale of 1 - 3, where 1 means the critter is easy to crit, 2 is average, and 3 is difficult. Most crittable beasts will fall into the 2 range, and again, this is my opinion. N indicates that the critter cannot be killed by crit wounds, to my knowledge. Bear in mind, also, that how easily a critter is critted is affected highly by its armor. Animals will often always be easier to crit, as they rarely wear armor.

Spells: Anything a critter did that I could recognize as a particular spell, went here.

Abilities: This is kind of a catch all for important info about a critter. Maneuver attacks, immunities, poison, breath weapons, etc., all fit here.

Skinnable: Kind of skin/approximate value, or No.

Treasure: Yes means normal kind of treasure (silvers, gems, items, boxes, etc), Yes(R) means treasure can only be gotten by repelling the critter, and No means absolutely no treasure, besides possibly skins. Anything else will have an explanation.
