| History of Mentors of Morada King Matthew II of Morada came into power in 1982, elected to take the throne following the death of his father, King Matthew Alvarez I. Ever since then the younger Alvarez has striven to increase tourism by creating tourist attractions and modernizing the island. The King's efforts along with the efforts of others have turned Morada into an island that combines Old World charm with contemporary conveniences. By 1998, many tourists had even bought homes and taken up permanent residence on the island. King Matthew decided that making the government more accessible to the public would benefit the interests of the island's population. In fall of 1998, he opened up His Royal Palace to the public. Shortly thereafter, the Board of Governors changed to meeting in open session, allowing everyone the opportunity to have a direct audience with the island's leaders. But the King decided that even more could be done to increase the quality of a tourist's experience on Morada. Something more needed to be done on a day by day basis. King Matthew noticed some tourists helping others here and there, but he decided that with proper organization they would be even more effective at improving the quality of everyday island life. He decided to build a Tourist Information Center, so helpful tourists would have a base of operations. Named after an architect responsible for designing many of the island's attractions, the Roger Johnston Tourist Information Center opened its doors in spring of 1999. The call went out for helpful tourists to sign up and become officially Certified Island Guides. After a training period and a background check, those with the aptitude and attitude began serving the island in a more organized capacity. Certified Island Guides pledge and promise to help newcomers and seasoned tourists alike further understand and appreciate the history, the attractions, and the mysterious allure of the island paradise called Morada. |
