Whittling: A Guide for the Beginning Whittler |
|
|
Whittling is relatively easy, but it does take a bit of your time so be sure to find yourself a beautiful glade or a quiet get-away where you can sit in peace. You'll be unable to do any other actions for the time it takes to make the finished project so finding a place away from others is useful, it also helps in case you botch a whittling job.
Whittling does take skill into account, so be prepared to either botch a few projects or just not able to even start until you become more experienced. It appears to use arts, gadgets, and coordination, not to mention a few unknowns at this time. So if you're ready to begin, just follow the steps below.
First off, you'll need a STICK to whittle. You can either have a friend get one for you, or you can FORAGE for one inside the palace garden, or outside the gates. Make sure you use a CYPRESS, WALNUT, or MAPLE stick because a plain stick won't work. Once you have the stick, then you'll need to park your backside and grab a good knife, preferably a carving knife or a quill knife although others will work.
To whittle an item, hold the stick and the knife and type WHITTLE <object>. Depending on your skill you will either not even know where to start or nearly cut your finger off...anything beyond that will result in a carving of your desired object. It will be crude, rough, or well-carved once you've finished. Some items can do things once they're done. For example birds...you can EXHALE BIRD and depending on how well you carved it it will act as a bird call. Feel free to experiment!
Now that you're all set and ready to go you'll want to decide on a project. The following list is always being added to, so it will never be complete. It will give you something to start with anyways.
