Brude says, "Particularly, there are some fairly critical components that combat needs that are currently in development."

Icharra lies flat on her back and grasps at the ground.

Brude says, "Combat as it is, is just the core, the bare bones."

Brude says, "Not a lot of frills, not a lot of wow."

Amaranth says, "Well, maybe a few wow's"

Xanthian mutters "obviously he hasn't seen a helix recently"

Brude says, "All those come with additions and enhancements to the core."

Destrution adopts an agreeable look.

Brude chuckles.

Brude nods to Amaranth.

Astraea says, "It basically Works well enough now to add more wow."

Destrution beams!

Amaranth nods to Astraea.

You say, "Wow me Baby"

Icharra says, "Brude, your cologne is a bit strong"

Brude blinks at Icharra.

Brude says, "I'm not wearing any."

Brude says, "Okay, the major three components that are in the works, at some stage, and which combat desperately needs are:"

Amaranth snickers.

Brude says, "There are others, of course, but they are either lesser in importance or have not been quite as fully drawn up as yet."

Brude says, "First, fatigue."

Brude says, "Fatigue will be an important factor and will have a notable impact on your combat prowess."

Zarkomet grins at Stenella.

Brude says, "The specifics of how much fatigue you have and how much is used up by what aren't fully hammered out yet."

Zarkomet nods to Stenella.

Stenella just left.

Brude says, "But, generally speaking, everything you do in combat will cost some fatigue."

Xanthian asks, "Even if we get put to sleep in combat?"

Xanthian peers quizzically at Brude.

Brude says, "And as you tire, you will lose some of your effectiveness."

Brude chuckles at Xanthian.

Destrution groans.

You say, "With my health I'll likely have a heart-attack every hunt"

Destrution chortles at you.

Xanthian looks at you and shrugs.

Xanthian says, "Transplant it for a scarab and you're ahead."

Xanthian nods to you.

You chuckle.

Destrution says, "Your Always So Positive"

Destrution nods to Xanthian.

Brude says, "The end result will be that you come out strong, well-nigh invincible, but as you batter your way through, you'll lose your edge and things will get trickier."

Arlene just left.

Brude says, "Not impossible, but not easy, either."

Arlene just arrived.

Blackbird Angeliqa just arrived.

Brude says, "The next component, item damage, has a similar effect and purpose."

Icharra begins to moan and wail loudly clutching her head!

Eri says, "It won't be that bad, Icharra."

Brude says, "It is in this that superior materials will show much of their benefits."

Xanthian raises his hand.

Brude says, "Not yet."

Brude grins at Xanthian.

Xanthian snaps his fingers.

You chuckle to yourself.

Xanthian appears changed in some fashion.

Zarkomet nods to Amaranth.

Brude says, "So, use your bronze axe against the bronze-armored thug, and your weapon is going to degrade faster than if you had steel."

Brude says, "Simple enough, basically."

Destrution nods.

Astraea nods.

Brude says, "As the weapon (or armor) takes damage, it becomes less damaging (or absorbs less damage)."

A golden snake slides off Llorien's head and onto her left shoulder, coiling itself around her upper arm.

Astraea exclaims, "Hah scurrilous dog I will thrust my rapier through the hole in your breastplate!"

Ralenth blinks at Astraea.

Ralenth cowers away from Astraea!

Destrution chortles.

Brude says, "What we want, however, isn't for you to be hunting and suddenly your sword is useless."

Xanthian asks, "A dog wearing a kinky breastplate?"

Xanthian scratches his head.

Astraea pouts.

Brude says, "The degradation will be more gradual, and regular maintenance should keep your gear in top form."

Destrution nods.

Ralenth gazes at Brude.

Brude says, "Slack off and you might end up whacking away with a butter knife."

Destrution gulps.

Ralenth asks, "regular maintenance as in after each hunt or how often?"

Ralenth peers quizzically at Brude.

Brude says, "Each kill."

Destrution glances at Ralenth and holds up one finger to his lips.

Brude nods.

Zarkomet gets a sudden twitch in his eye.

Xanthian says, "Depending on how stubborn you are with a butter knife."

Ralenth blinks at Brude.

You chuckle.

Xanthian nods to Ralenth.

Eri rolls her eyes.

Brude chuckles.

Eri sighs.

Amaranth shakes her head at Brude and clucks her tongue.

Brude says, "Generally, regular maintenace would be after each hunt."

Ashmael asks, "So we -all- need arms maintenance now??"

Destrution nods.

Ralenth releases a long sigh of relief.

Ralenth gazes at Ashmael.

Ralenth asks, "Why would we?"

Xanthian looks over at Ashmael and shakes his head.

Xanthian removes a hastily scribbled note from his moth-eaten sack.

Xanthian waves his scribbled note around.

Ralenth says, "just bring it to a wrrior"

Xanthian puts a hastily scribbled note in a large grey moth-eaten sack.

Ralenth babbles incoherently.

Brude says, "There is an NPC repairman."

Cervesus says, "or ya come see someone who has it second tier"

Cervesus nods to Ashmael.

Ashmael nods.

Ralenth agrees with Cervesus.

Ralenth cuddles up next to Destrution.

Eri says, "Nah. The people who have arms maint skill will become rich like alchies usta be able to."

Eri chuckles.

Brude says, "And other players have trained the skill."

Destrution says, "Can I Ask Something Here Or Wait"

Xanthian removes a quality carving knife from his weather-beaten sack.

Ashmael stretches out her legs.

Ashmael leans back.

Angeliqa mutters something under her breath.

Brude says, "Wait till the Q&A portion."

Destrution nods.

(Xanthian jabs his carving knife in Destrution's arm, causing it to instinctively jump up with a consequent yelp.)

Xanthian puts a quality carving knife in a faded weather-beaten sack clasped with a tarnished silver hammer.

Destrution blinks at Xanthian.

Ralenth blinks at Xanthian.

Ralenth snarls at Xanthian.

Xanthian's eyes seem to shift and change until they finally return to normal.

Destrution mutters Your Gonna Sew That Up Later

Amaranth says, "Combo moves are the other change we want to add in for you"

Destrution nods.

You applaud.

Amaranth says, "These will be returns of the old old OLD old style of combos"

Icharra begins to moan and wail loudly clutching her head!

Ralenth mutters that's it, Xanthian replaces Brude as the body later tonight.

Amaranth says, "At least in their execution"

Ralenth lets out a hearty cheer for Amaranth!

Xanthian says, "Ah, jab, lunge, windmill strike, pommel strike, spinning strike."

Llorien grins.

Destrution throws back his head and howls.

Xanthian says, "Swing, reverse stroke, pommel strike... erm, the thing just died..."

Amaranth says, "Where you will perform an attack and if the next attack is part of a combo you know then it will execute as a combination move"

Llorien says, "The five combo."

Ralenth snickers at Xanthian.

Amaranth says, "the benefits will be similar in lower THT scores for successive moves, better damage, lower stance penalties, etc."

Amaranth says, "There is a big difference in the variety of combos we will be adding"

Eri says, "But... you'll probably get too fatigued after move number two, and pass out."

Eri snickers.

Amaranth says, "I.E. - there may be combos involving alchemical attacks, Battlecraft attacks, magical attacks, sonic attacks, or a combination of various skills"

Destrution lets out a soft purr of satisfaction.

Cervesus says, "now would be the time to complain of a headache"

Amaranth says, "The one caveate is that it will require some battlecraft to use combinations that involve various skill abilities"

Eri asks, "Even if those moves are not "BC" moves?"

Eri peers quizzically at Amaranth.

Amaranth says, "Meaning, combos that utilize more than one skill set such as a brawling/alchemy attack combo requires some battlecraft to use"

Eri furrows her brow.

Destrution throws back his head and howls.

Ralenth gazes thoughtfully at Amaranth.

Ralenth cuddles up next to Destrution.

A dun finch lifts its head and nuzzles Destrution's ear before warbling a heart-rending melody.

Amaranth says, "But an attack using strictly alchemical attacks requires no battlecraft to use"

Ralenth gazes at Amaranth through narrowed eyes and lets out a soft purr of contentment.

Astraea says, "Combos that are one discipline will not.  But combos that mix disciplines will."

Amaranth says, "This should give us quite a nice variety"

Astraea says, "So kick punch knee lick would all be brawling stuffs."

Amaranth says, "We will toy with the idea of being able to list the moves you've discovered too"

Brude says, "Lunge is a rudimentary move.  Requires little skill.  It has benefits, but they are lesser than what you would see from a well executed series of attacks ended with a lunge."

Destrution nods.

Amaranth says, "Even more-so with the CRUSH move"

A pained expression crosses Amaranth's face.

Jubalee taps her badge that says, "I'm not combatty!  I'm just batty!"

Brude chuckles.

Destrution looks at Ralenth and blushes.

Ralenth winks at Destrution and hums a happy little tune.

Xanthian says, "I actually noticed that I thrust for more damage with a blunt than I crush for..."

Icharra exclaims, "yippee!"

Icharra says, "my curse just went byebye"

Brude says, "Okay, I'm going to open the box 15 questions to start."

Llorien's snake charm coils up off her left arm and drapes its body across her back, from shoulder to shoulder.

Brude calls the assembly to order.  After a moment the crowd quiets down.

Brude asks, "Okay, now try?"

Brude says, "Cervesus asks, 'does learning combos require more than usual training, like a battle manual?'"



Brude nods to Cervesus, who stands up to address the assembly.



Amaranth says, "No.  If you can perform the move and the combo exists then it can be done.  learning a combo is part of the benefit of training in a skill"

Cervesus asks, "how will that work for multiple skill combos?"

Amaranth says, "That's the next question I believe.  But let me answer it"

Icharra just left.

Cervesus nods.

Amaranth says, "We're looking at half the Battlecraft skill requirement that the attack move requires.  So if you have a lightning puch/Spirit Strike combo, it would need only 1.5 ranks in Battlecraft since Spirit Strike is a level 1 spell and you figure on 3 ranks per level required to use Spirit Strike."

Cervesus ponders.

Amaranth says, "These checks aren't fully fleshed out yet but we're lokking at basically half the battlecraft skill that the combos next attack requires in it's discipline"

Cervesus asks, "and it looks to the highest skilled attack in the sequence, or an average?"

Amaranth nods to Cervesus.

Cervesus nods.

Cervesus says, "thank ya"

Brude asks, "All done?"

Brude says, "Eri asks, 'how much BC skill do you think it will take for multi-skill combos?'"



Brude nods to Eri, who stands up to address the assembly.



Eri furrows her brow.

Eri asks, "It seems to me totally unfair that BC skill (which I have zero of) should be needed to use combos involving my sonics, brawling, and melee, all of which I am well trained in?"

Amaranth asks, "Did you have more to ask on this Eri?"

Eri shrugs.

Eri says, "It just seems odd. But if the skill requirements are low enough..."

Amaranth says, "You will still have plenty of combinations you can use, you just will not have the skill to use the variety combinations that involve a mixture of those"

Eri says, "I suppose I'll just have to train BC even though I didn't want to and had no plan to."

Eri nods to Amaranth.

Eri says, "Okay, I guess."

Eri smiles at Amaranth.

Brude asks, "That answer it for you?"

Eri nods to Brude.

You say, "Just wondering if that's being considered, because hunting at a less effective rate won't stop... "some" from obliterating critters for an hour or more."

Brude says, "You probably won't be forced to stop as in you collapse and can't move."

Brude says, "Probably."

Astraea says, "I would like to state that what your hearing here are plans for the future, they are plans and are not necessarily set in stone.  They may come out exactly as stated.  They may be modified.   Part of the reason for sharing them with you IS for your input."

Ruffling its feathers, a dun finch sings a few twittering notes on Destrution's shoulder before falling silent.

Brude says, "But as you get fatigued, you're going to hit poorly, get hit more often, and probably for more damage."

Brude says, "It isn't just swinging and dodging that will use fatigue."

Brude says, "Fatigue is going to be tied into all of combat."

Amaranth says, "And as things start using more fatigue, battlecraft move fatigue costs will be tweaked appropriately"

Brude says, "Obviously, we don't want to make it so that only those with the skill trained in the top tier are able to maintain their equipment."

Brude says, "Goldenmane asks, 'What about magic? My weapons do a heck of a lot more damage than my strike spells now? I can kill much faster with the weapons than with any of my magic.'"

Brude says, "All forms of combat need to be realigned and fit into the system.  None of them are set up to use it yet."

Brude says, "Their damage, their costs, their roundtime.. all will have to be evaluated to ensure they are balanced against other forms."

Brude asks, "Did you have anything else to ask or add?"

Brude says, "Xanthian asks, 'Well, you said something about repair... thing is, there's 2 standards of a weapon's worth, and Ixifous charges different prices for repair depending on the value of an item... any intention to either fix this or raise the price of items back up?'"



Brude nods to Xanthian, who stands up to address the assembly.



Xanthian says, "Always with the bugs..."

Xanthian ducks his head.

Brude chuckles.

Brude says, "I'm not really familiar with the repair NPC or his prices, so I really can't say."

Xanthian says, "Basically, there are steel swords which appraise for over 10000 dinars at a pawnshop, and steel swords which appraise for under 1000."

Brude says, "Ah"

Xanthian says, "Ixifous charges for repair based on how damaged something is, and what its value is."

Brude nods to Xanthian.

Xanthian asks, "So, uhh, is it a case of old weapons getting the third short end of the two-ended stick?"

Brude says, "That may be something that will have to be handled by converting old weapons to use the newer standards."

Xanthian says, "The same question for armor too..."

Xanthian says, "Even though there isn't any around which is ridiculously cheap, it was planned to do so."

Ashmael just left.

Xanthian says, "And, speaking as somebody who paid almost 400 dinars every time they got hit 4 times, just to repair a breastplate, that price is a killer."

Xanthian says, "Just a head's up, I guess."

Xanthian shrugs.

Brude nods to Xanthian.

Brude says, "The repair system as a whole will need some tuning as item damage is properly added."

Xanthian says, "There was one other question..."

Brude says, "Costs, requirements, etc."

Brude nods to Xanthian.

Xanthian says, "Uhh, well, basically, I'm not finding it takes 5 hits to kill something all that often, unless those hits are jabs or pommel strikes..."

Xanthian asks, "I assume this will be changing once we have 5+ hit combos?"

Brude says, "Some things will go down more easily than others."

Xanthian asks, "Or at least, once we're fatigued enough?"

Destrution shifts his weight around.

Brude says, "As you get fatigued, yeah, you'll find it takes you more hits to kill something."

Xanthian nods.

Xanthian says, "So that might be when we start fleshing full combos out then."

Brude says, "I'm hoping to see both of them, combos and fatigue, released roughly at the same time."

Xanthian says, "Guess that's it... oh, and your chain's busted, but it's in no hurry."

Brude chuckles.

Brude says, "Okay."

Amaranth says, "rats.  I wanted to release combos tomorrow!  Guess we'll just have to wait then..."

Amaranth lets out a miserable sigh.

Brude chuckles at Amaranth.

A small golden snake uncurls from about Llorien's finger and coils about her right wrist, where it goes still.

Brude says, "Angeliqa asks, 'do any of these combat changes affect Ranged  in first tier?'"



Brude nods to Angeliqa, who stands up to address the assembly.



Angeliqa smiles.

Angeliqa says, "I guess That should be rephrased to HOW do they affect Ranged"

Brude says, "Ranged weapons are going to have their own set of improvements."

Brude says, "Fatigue will effect them as it will any other type of combat."

Angeliqa says, "everything I use is ranged or peircing except for my strike spells"

Brude says, "More and better types of ammo are planned and in the works."

Angeliqa says, "so I'll be unable to draw my bow. if I'm too fatigued? "

Brude chuckles.

Angeliqa gets a silly grin on her face.

Brude says, "You'll probably still be able to draw it, but you might find it harder to hit the target.  Or find that it barely grazes them."

Brude says, "The item damage with ranged weapons is also under discussion."

Brude says, "You will have real ammo, by the way, not the magic instant-poofing stuff."

Angeliqa asks, "so I'll have to load it?"

Angeliqa asks, "for each shot?????"

Brude says, "Probably."

Angeliqa gazes at Brude in fear.

Brude chuckles.

Brude says, "The benefits of bows and crossbows, though, will be well worth the loading."

Amaranth nods to Brude.

Amaranth says, "The discussions for ranged weapons looks promising"

Angeliqa says, "I hope so.  oh any plans for harmonic bows? "

Angeliqa gazes hopefully at Amaranth.

Brude says, "Not at the moment.  We've only just gotten most of the harmonic melee issues resolved."

Brude grins.

Angeliqa chuckles.

Angeliqa says, "ok ..thanks for taking the time to run this by us and allow us our questions"

Angeliqa smiles.

Brude nods to Angeliqa.



Having finished addressing the assembly Angeliqa sits back down.



Brude says, "Zarkomet asks, 'You said this is an overview of things to come? But when are all these things going to come?'"



Brude nods to Zarkomet, who stands up to address the assembly.



Brude says, "As soon as they are done and ready."

Zarkomet chuckles.

Zarkomet says, "Yeah but hopefully not too long"

Brude says, "I have a date by which I want them released, but between now and then any number of things could throw in wrench in the process."

Brude nods to Zarkomet.

Brude says, "No, I'm hoping not long at all."

Zarkomet nods to Brude.

Brude says, "These are things that have been missing for a long time, and really need to be in place."

Zarkomet nods.

Brude says, "So we're trying to get them in as quickly as we can without blowing too much up."

Zarkomet nods.

Brude asks, "Okay, did that answer your question well enough?"

A dun finch hops on Destrution's shoulder, ruffling its feathers quickly before settling down.

Brude says, "Icharra asks, 'Will critters that lost special moves be getting them back?'"

Brude says, "Hmm.. she's gone."

Brude says, "But I'll answer that."

Brude says, "Yes, and they will get a lot more."

Brude says, "Ralenth asks, 'How will combos affect fatigue and how does  unarmed combat and priestly stuff for example have to do with BC?'"

Ralenth gazes at Brude.

Ralenth says, "Well... Yeah. What do other skills that aren't BC based have to do with BC"

Brude says, "Combo moves will be fatiguing like any other."

Ralenth asks, "?"

Brude says, "Though.. maybe a reduced cost might be part of their benefits."

Ralenth says, "That's what I meant if they had a reduction because of having to do so many in a row"

Ralenth chuckles.

Amaranth asks, "How are you defining battlecraft, Ralenth?"

Ralenth gazes at Amaranth.

Ralenth says, "A warrior or warrior based character skill."

Amaranth asks, "Okay, what does the skill enhance or do specifically?"

Amaranth says, "Because I get the impression that maybe this isn't clear"

Ralenth says, "A knowledge of the human body and ways to use the weaknesses of the body accordingly to your advangtage."

Amaranth says, "That's pretty close to what I define it as"

Ralenth says, "which really has nothing to do with priestly strike spells"

Ralenth says, "Or alchemy powders"

Amaranth says, "But it also means an ability to use a situation to your best advantage"

Ralenth gazes at Amaranth.

Ralenth says, "but it has nothing to do with alchemy or magic or sonics really"

Amaranth says, "You may know how to barce a warstaff against the shoulder well, and to cast a spell and direct it properly, but to make use of a smooth transition from one attack to another is what the battlecraft requirement is looking for"

Ralenth says, "those are completely different skillsets from BC"

Ralenth gazes at Xanthian.

Eri shifts her weight around.

Amaranth says, "And since you are already familiar with a certain type of attack skill, using other skills of that type in connection to each other will be assumed so they can be used together successfully"

Ralenth gazes at Amaranth.

Ralenth says, "Okay I have alchemy and sonics"

Ralenth says, "I have no BC"

Amaranth nods to Ralenth.

Ralenth says, "To combine my sonics and say my warbunny"

Ralenth asks, "I have to know BC?"

Amaranth says, "yes"

Ralenth asks, "when I already know those two very well?"

Ralenth raises an eyebrow.

Amaranth nods to Ralenth.

Ralenth flails her arms around in front of Xanthian.

A small golden snake slithers up from Llorien's wrist and transfers itself to her neck, looping itself in graceful coils before falling back to sleep.

Ralenth says, "Not asking you"

Ralenth mutters incoherently at Xanthian.

Amaranth says, "Yes, and you can already use a sonic attack followed by the attack with the warbunny"

Ralenth asks, "Yeah but won't it think you're trying to do the combo?"

Ralenth peers quizzically at Amaranth.

Amaranth says, "But to gain a benefit from the transition or timing of moving from one attack to the other requires some Battlecraft skill"

Amaranth says, "It will assume you are attempting that combo, but without the required BC skill it will not execute as a combo"

Brude says, "If you use two attacks that are in a combo but can't use the combo, the attacks will function as usual.  You just won't gain any addition benefits like reduced THT or RT or damage boosts, etc."

Amaranth nods to Brude.

Ralenth asks, "So our normal damage will not change from this?"

Destrution shifts his weight around.

Ralenth asks, "It won't be dropped because the combo isn't effective?"

Amaranth says, "Correct"

Brude says, "Combos are an addition, boost, and benefit, not a way to limit any attacks you already can use."

Ralenth says, "Okay"

Ralenth says, "That's what I was worried about."

Ralenth nods.

Amaranth nods to Ralenth.

Brude says, "I do the limiting.  Everyone else makes the boosts."

Brude asks, "Did you have anything else?"

Ralenth gazes at Brude.

Ralenth shakes her head.

Brude nods.

You ask, "Are steel weapons still requiring you to be a certain level before yielding its full effectiveness?"

Brude says, "No.  There are no 'levels' to weapons."

You say, "Sweet"

Brude says, "You simply gain more benefit from them as you gain more skill."

Brude says, "Steel vs. bronze at level 1 is identical or nearly so.  At level 100 it is not."

You say, "Right, like more damage - but nothing due to level specifically"

Brude nods to you.

You say, "I'm done"

Brude says, "Okay."

Brude says, "Cervesus asks, 'this isn't exactly on point for your topics, but I think it's sort of a corollary -- will a brawler not using a brawling weapon take damage from punching an armored opponent?'"



Brude nods to Cervesus, who stands up to address the assembly.



Cervesus asks, "a feller gets curious sometimes, ya know?"

Brude says, "At the moment, that's not something being planned."

Brude chuckles.

Cervesus nods.

Brude says, "The damage penalties for using bare fists on metal are probably enough."

Cervesus asks, "but we will break brawlin' weapons, same as melee ones, eh?"

Brude says, "Damage, yes, break  no."

Cervesus shrugs.

Cervesus says, "you say potato, I say potahto"

Brude says, "Only critter-dropped weapons and armor will be subject to actually breakage."

Cervesus chuckles.

Cervesus nods.

Brude says, "And you will have a chance, occasionally, to break their weapon or rip their armor in half in combat."

Cervesus says, "good enough fer me"

Cervesus grins.
