"Role-playing is very much like when you were little and played cowboys and Indians. You became the cowboy or the Indian, running around shooting each other with guns or bow and arrows, calling for the Cavalry or having pow-wow s with your fellow Indians. You did what you thought a cowboy or an Indian did in those situations."

"When you role-play, you create a character based on the time and setting, your character should act and react accordingly. Role-playing is much like acting. Your character may act in a way or do things that you in real life would not or not be able to do. It is a way of escapism, becoming someone else entirely and leaving behind the pressures and stress that may encumber your real life."

"One of the things that I think is important and has helped me in my own character development is my character history. A character history can help you define where it is you have been, where you are going and why you act or do things the way you do. What types of hardships or experiences both happy and sad did your character face while growing up that helped create the personality you play? Did your character grow up in a village or in a city? Raised by loving parents or fostered by others? Did your character find happiness early or did someone hurt him or her. All these are just a small fraction of possible scenarios that can shape and mold the character you play."
