London Sights

[Tower of London] On Wednesday afternoon we went to the Tower of London. The history there is overwhelming. A beefeater gave us a tour and explained some of what went on at the Tower.

In order to become a beefeater, you must serve at least 22 years in the military, have an unblemished conduct record, and reach the rank of sergeant major or warrant officer. You get the feeling that nothing could possibly rattle these gentlemen.

At the end of the tour, I wanted a picture with a beefeater. I told David that I wanted to get a picture, so he walked up to a couple of beefeaters and said, "Excuse me gentlemen, is it all right if my aunt takes a picture with you guys?" One of the beefeaters looked at the other and said, "Did you hear that? He called us guys!" This led to a few exchanges of "Guys?" "Yes, he called us guys!" One of the beefeaters then looked at David's baggy pants and uttered the Quote of the Day: Perhaps if you ate more potatoes, young man, you'd grow into those trousers! [Andrea and the beefeaters]
Fortunately they did agree to pose for a picture!

The Tower of London was also the home of Anne Boleyn for a time. This is the house where she was held before her death.
