First order of business was to replace my Dakar's totally-knackered Metzler Karoos with some gnarly Dunlop 606's. The Karoos were okay -- actually a wee bit better on pavement than the Dunlops -- but that front Karoo never really did inspire a lot of confidence offroad. The D606 front seems to grip way better in loose dirt and pebbles/gravel, just the thing for the Clayton area. The tire gods must have been with me for this operation, because for the first time that I can remember, I actually got BOTH tires mounted without pinching a tube. Woohoo! Damn, but new knobbies give me wood!
