A Mutual Understanding

It is 1984.  Wayne Robinson is the local hairdresser in the small college town he grew up in. Campy, demonstrative, an amateur artist and a romantic at heart, he quickly discovers an inferiority complex where Professor Adrian Taylor is concerned. Taylor is deeply closeted with a mania for privacy, a dry sense of humor and an endearing helplessness in matters of the heart. When he invites Wayne to move in as his 'tenant', their mutual misunderstanding of the arrangement causes conflict. The haunted house in the old part of town becomes a battleground as Wayne tries to retain his relationship with his new lover, his old friends, and his family.

Available as paperback or e-book

Don Juan and Men: tales of lust and Seduction

edited by Caro Soles

The story of Don Juan is a popular one and has appeared in many guises throughout literary and musical history. The Spanish Don with his single minded drive to seduce, conquer and desert those who fall under his spell, fascinates us all. He is a man of power, a man who goes against the rules, a cynic with devastating charm. But the stories in this anthology will explore a side of the Don that has not been examined before. What if Don Juan were gay?

    Advance praise:

"A SEDUCTIVE BLEND OF CAMP HUMOUR, PATHOS AND ANTICIPATION"
Anthony Bidulka, author of the award-winning Russell Quant mystery series, including Flight of Aquavit, winner of the Lambda Literary Award for Best Gay Men's Mystery

"A FIRST-RATE MYSTERY. . . . A GREAT READ AND WELL WORTH A SPECIAL TRIP TO THE BOOKSTORE"
Mark Zubro, author of the Tom and Scott mystery series and A Simple Suburban Murder, winner of the Lambda Literary Award for Best Gay Men's Mystery

    The Danger Dance

The second book in the Merculian series, is also available now in an bookstore near you. Or you can order online. The Danger Dance is actually a "prequel" to Abulon, since it takes place earlier and describes some events only hinted at in that book. Click on the link on the left to read an excerpt.

    Advance praise:

    "a sparkling futurist romp."
"(A tale) imbued with a tingling subversity of gender, sexuality, and goose-bumping excitement. Soles can really write, with wit, sensuosity, and depth." Perry Brass

    The Abulon Dance

The pleasure-loving hermaphrodites of the Merculian National Dance Company are on tour to mysterious Abulon. The natives seem friendly enough, but when the star's young lover is kidnapped, the Merculians find themselves plunged into an alien civil war they are ill-equipped to survive.

"...a crackerjack SF novel -- moving, eloquent, and richly textured. I recommend it highly."

    Robert J. Sawyer

    The Tangled Boy

My first mystery. The murder of notorious Jordan King shocks the small resort town of Fairleigh Heights. Seventeen year old Cory Williams was there that night. Now the boy is terrified—of his own peculiar desires; of his classmates who persecute him mercilessly; and most of all, of the threatening shadowy men who know his shameful secret. Read an excerpt by clicking the link.

"Caro Soles makes a very impressive debut as a mystery writer with The Tangled Boy, an intriguing and haunting tale of a boy's sexual awakening set against a backdrop of small-town murder."
    Peter Robinson

"Provocative and engrossing, Caro Soles' "The Tangled Boy" haunts the reader long after the last page is turned. This is an impressive debut novel that leaves us wanting more."
