| Here are several images taken from state highway maps over the years Some of these have been displayed on the individual route pages over the years, while others are new. |

SD-30 ran border-to-border in 1926, mainly as the original state number for current US-14. By the mid 1930's, the only segment left was from Belle Fourche to the Montana line; this was eliminated by 1940 with the extension of US-212.

Before the creation of Lake Oahe (under construction in 1953), the town of Cheyenne Agency had a population of 400, and Whitlocks Crossing had 150. Both were flooded after the lake was created. US-212 was rerouted along the road going to Forest City, before heading north across the lake. The old US-212 alignment now leads to the East Whitlock Lakeside Recreation Area.

Back in 1941, SD-24A was the new name given to the road going from Whitewood to Belle Fourche. Before 1950, the mainline SD-24 was rerouted onto this alignment. SD-24 was eliminated around 1960, when SD-34 was extended west from Pierre along the SD-24 alignment.

A 1938 map of Sioux Falls. None of these highway numbers exist in the city anymore, although the present end of SD-38 (at I-29) approaches the northwest corner of the city.

In 1962, much of the Interstate construction around Sioux Falls was complete, except for I-90 west of Cliff Ave. and I-29 north from SD-38.
