We have had several cats in our 11 years together, and we loved them all. I've always been a "cat person" and David has found that he likes them too. Sure, they're not a big dog, but they can be just as much fun.
Sammy
Sammy was our cat in Fairbanks, we only had him for about a year or so. We took him with us when we left and had him in Iowa, but when we moved to Lockport, we couldn't have a cat in our first apartment, so we left him with David's cousin Natalie, and her cat Eli. One time David tied a balloon string to Sammy's collar and he went outside and got scared because the balloon popped and he didn't come back until the next day. We were afraid he wouldn't come back at all, and that was when we were leaving town shortly. Sammy loved to lie on the "hot spot" on the floor where the heatpipe was, and he'd stretch out and we'd call him a flat cat, because his legs would go out behind him like a frog. One time he climbed up on the toilet when David was getting ready to use it, and walked across the open seat, and got a little bit wet. He wasn't very happy about that.
Digit
Digit is the senior cat, the portly old man, 8 years old and 16 pounds. He's much too dignified to run and chase with the younger cats (most of the time). He's also a big wuss, he gets scared at the slightest noise and will run and hide if he thinks we're going to take him somewhere in the cat carrier, so we have to put him in the box when he's not expecting it. He will eat his food really fast and then puke it up undigested. Shadoe and Pixel would clean up after him (disgusting) most of the time. Digit also doesn't remember how to cover up in the litter box, which is VERY annoying, because then =I= have to cover it up (with a scooper). Digit has 5 extra toes, hence his name. He's the Jeopardy cat, and whenever he hears the Jeopardy theme song, he'll come and sit on my lap and watch with me, even if it's recorded. He doesn't usually stay the whole time though. He loves to sit in boxes. He's very needy emotionally in the mornings. When I come in the bedroom to get dressed after my shower, Digit's always waiting for me on the bed. Most of the time, he'll greet me and purr and rub and sometimes try to climb up me like I was a ladder, and he almost always wants kisses on his head. He flops when he wants attention, wants his tummy rubbed, or if he meets a new person and wants them to be his friend. Mostly he seems to like girls.
Digit and Jean-Luc, playing dentist Digit Jean-Luc
Jean-Luc was named after, not the captain of the Enterprise, but after that waiter..... the one in the coffee commercial. He had the scratchiest tongue I've ever felt, felt like extra-coarse sandpaper. He was also very cute like Pixel, she looks a lot like him, and he had "little pink pads and a little pink nose". He liked to drink out of the bathtub when David was in it, he'd stand on the side of the tub and lap, lap, lap the warm water. He had "intestinal difficulties" and we miss him.
Jean-Luc just hanging around Shadoe
Shadoe had the softest fur I've ever felt, almost as soft as a chinchilla. He loved to "weasel" under a blanket on my lap, just to be in and under it. Any blanket on my lap was a kitty-magnet for Shadoe. He had a very soft purr, and he was very gentle, most of the time. He and George would race thru the house like speed demons, wrestle and roll around on the floor. George kept him young I think. When Shadoe was a kitten, he liked to "go up" onto my shoulder, and as he grew, he still did, so by the time he was 3 years old and 13 pounds, it was more like a fireman's carry. But I could pick him up and hold him whenever I wanted to and he'd just climb right up on my shoulder and purr his brains out. Most of the time, before we started closing the bedroom door, he'd come and sleep on the bed right between my legs. Made it tough to roll over, but I could roll under him and he'd just continue to sleep. Shadoe absolutely hated the smell of peppermint chewing gum. If I had gum, and blew on him, he'd wrinkle his face all up and squinch his eyes shut and back away like he'd just smelled the yukkiest smell in the world. Sometimes, to torment him, I'd say, "Shadoe, I have gum...." and blow on him a little bit. He loved to drink the milk out of my cereal bowl in the mornings, I'd finish my cereal and drink most of the milk out, then set it down on the floor and he'd lick it out, even if there wasn't anything left, he still liked the taste of it. He got sick very suddenly in May 1997, and we miss him.

George
George was our unusual cat. When we got him, we only had two black cats, and he's an orange striped tabby. We had only had round-headed cats, and he's got a very pointy face. We think he probably has some Siamese in him, mostly in his voice. We also got him at 6 months, not when he was a kitten, and he was already neutered. So he was very different from all of our other cats, so he got a different kind of name. He's not much of a snuggle cat except on his terms, when he feels like it, but when he does, he'll come up and purr and get in the meatloaf position right on my chest. In the mornings he'll come in while I'm still in bed and climb onto my chest and get some snuggles for a few minutes. When we come home from being out, George will come to the door and greet us, walk in circles around our legs and then flop down on his side for some tummy rubs. George is also the resident bathroom attendant. Whenever either of us go to the bathroom, he'll come in and see if we need anything. Doesn't matter what he's doing or if he's in the other part of the house, he's there. He's never brought me anything I asked for but he always shows up. He also loves to be in the sink, and will just lie there if you run water on him and lick it off of himself. Very strange cat.
