Location: Ilithi, Third Realm

Government: There are two parts to the government of Shard. The first part is the Ferdahl, who acts like a monarch. The Ferdahls are the ancestral rulers of the Elothean people. Currently, Kukalakai Alec'nar'a is the Ferdahl. The second part is the Three, a council of three members. The Three is made up of the Seer Judge, the Political Leader, and the Protectorate. The Political Leader acts as an ambassador, dealing with all foreign groups. The Protectorate commands the guards and army of Shard. The Seer Judge enforces the law of Shard. The Three and the Ferdahl rule from Shard's Great Tower.

Places of Interest: The Great Tower, Stormwill Tower, Tower of Honor.

Physical Layout: Like most other aesthetically pleasing cities, Shard is perfectly symmetrical. Unlike Leth Deriel and Surlaenis, though, Shard's is an unnatural beauty. Shard brings life to the expression "Streets paved with gold." The city is built from crystal and silver, gold and ruby, emerald and moonstone. The city is full of spires and arching bridges, as it rests in the center of the Lake of Tears. The bridges of Shard are: the Bridge of Suns, the Bridge of Rooks, the Bridge of Linden Leaves, the Bridge of Silver, the Bridge of Wrens, and the Bridge of Sparrows. Gates stand at the north, east, south, and west points of Shard, while towers (Brickwell, Stormwill, Greenleaf, and Honor, respectively) stand at the northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest points.

Culture: Shard is a city of Elotheans and Celestial (or City) Elves. The people of Shard believe very strongly in balance between light and darkness, as is evidenced in the symmetry of their city. Sunstone Steet and its Temple of Light rivals Moonstone Street and its Temple of Darkness. The beauty of Shard contrasts with the poverty and ruin of Undershard below. Also is the celebration of Ten'ra Agalith (Heaven Truce), an ancient festival of Shard in which the Gods of Darkness are honored and appeased. Originally, Ten'ra Agalith involved sacrifices, but that practice ended centuries ago.

History: The city of Shard was constructed by Queen Morganae of the Mountains, and Ferdahl Corik of the Black Cloud. Its history has been nothing but bleak, for all of Shard's sparkling beauty. First the city was plagued by the Dark Gods, when its citizens failed to worship them properly. When the Empire of the Dragon was born, Shard was the first city to fall, and Dzree all but razed it to the ground. It was later rebuilt by Ferdahl Alek the Phoenix, father of Kukalakai. The next tragedy to strike Shard was the disaster of Dertalriosh Endaertheal'a, or "Spear of Sun's Flame Descending" in Gerenshuge, the language of Elotheans. Because of that, to this day, Stormwill Tower is still surrounded by a stormcloud, shooting down deadly bolts of lightning. P.I.
