Harmful Healing

by Deru Asei'Hariar

(Crossing, Zoluren: Uthmor 363)

A young boy struggling only slightly with the door enters the tavern. He smiles shyly and climbs up onto one of the large stools that surround the bar.

"Hi hi, Baresh" he says with only a hint of weariness. "Da' last few days haff been a bit hard on efferyone methinks" he bows his head slightly. "Especially da' friends who haff fallen in da' fields of battle, whereffer does be."

Baresh nods solemnly "Would ye like something to drink maybe, good empath?" the boy looks up at Baresh with bright eyes "Yes, Lemonaid if ye haff any please." there is a slight rustling under the bar, while Baresh searches high and low for something without alchohol in it. Finally he stands up holding a small pitcher of lemonaid and pours a glass.

The boy looks around the room somewhat anxiously and then accepts the glass from Baresh.

"Is there anything else ye wish to tell me of, young one?" Baresh looks at the boy questionly, noting the somewhat distacted face he is wearing.

"Well yes," he sighs slightly "It all happened a couple days ago while I was healing dead peoples before da' vasion, at the clerics guild. I walked in, observed the room and began healing the first dead person I saw, since they usually dun asks. Well, affer a couple seconds anouther empath lady who I wull not names out of respect fer her, whispers tah me. She says what are yah doings healing someone I already started ons', dat it very rude fer me tah heal someone she already started on who dead."

The boy pauses and takes a long sip of his lemonaid. He then makes himself comfortable on the stool and continues.

"I looked at her and whispered back That I thought dat' the dead usually needed more den one pathie and dat' I had neffer know another path to dislike help so much. Afterwards I apologized and went back to my guild to heals myself."

Baresh nods to the boy and gets a small rag from under the bar and begins to clean the counter while he listens.

"Anyways during the 'vasions I stationed myself at the Bard's guild, to heal the brave musicians of the war. After I had healed a few bards I noticed the chime ring an' the same lady empath called out her name tah be let in."

Deru sighs slighty trying to remebering any details he is leaving out. He takes another sip of lemonaid and continues.

"She was let in and I waved to her, since we were of the same guild. She didn't wave back and sat down. Well bards came in and out, some hurt and some giving news to the others. Well between the thoughts coming through my gweths and the bards coming through the portal I must haff missed her begin healing one of the bards, who I later found out was her son. I not seeing this began to heal him myself. An' she then began yelling at me for efferyones to hear. She said she was fed up with me healing people she already started on. She said that it was so rude that if I did it again she would strike me down herself wiff an arrow."

The boy shudders slightly and continues.

"I couldn't beliefs it, with all that was going on and the war, she was threatening my life because I was helping to heal her son by accidents. Well, I tol' hers ifin she effer did dat' the guild elders would not be happy and neither would my parents. She said dat' she wasn't afraid of my parents and that her friends dat were bards wouldn't stop her from killing me."

With a finally gulp the young boy finishes his lemonaid and hands the glass to Baresh to clean.

"I haff nefer been so hurt by another one of my guildmates in my lifes so far. In a time that we all must work together, to quibbles so much about something that can do nothing but good is not only mean, but jus' plain disheartning. I'm not sorry fer what I did, I's a empath and that is what I do. Mebbe some should review in their hearts why they haff choosen what guild they are ins' and change accordingly."

As the boy turns to leave he reaches up and places two silver coins on the bar and Baresh notices a small tear in his eye. The boy swiftly leaves the tavern only struggling slighty with the door on his way out.
