Submitted: 12 October 1999 What Justice? by Ryeka Wolfsdaughter (Crossing, Zoluren: Shorka 359)The young elfin cleric trudged into the tavern and turned down the hood of her cloak. "Nothing for me, please, Baresh," she said with a smile that she could barely force. "I'm only here because I have heard you are interested in what people have to say." She folded her hands on the bar and gazed down an instant before turning her silver eyes full on the barkeep. "Baresh, I did not know the empath Jelantha well. But I have had occasion to work with her, in Shard. And I will tell you, I am sickened by the biased way in which this 'trial' was handled. While I am no friend of the pirates, for all I know Jelantha might have been able to convince them to hold their hand from us through kindness- instead of the curses most of the rest of us resorted to. Not that we will ever find out now. "If a person may be accused of treason for healing or raising someone else who is not- popular- then I am guilty too. The gods know that others have attempted to keep me from raising. But we do not need more hurt in this world of ours." With that, the cleric dropped several silvers on the bar and strode back out into the night.
