The Gray Drake

as told by Aislin Zedinista

(The Provinces: 90 Lirisa 352)

The Gray Drake is the tale of a beast passed down through many generations of Sithrengaen lore. The Drake is said to be spawned from the tears of the Void at the time of Creation. Being a creature of Void, It can never be sated in Its hungers. It has no days, and darkens all that It touches.

The body of the Gray Drake is formed from the remnants of unlived dreams. It constantly soars through the Realms seeking the winds devoid of song and laughter which will lead It to the souls to replenish Its fine scale coat. It is these winds that lead the Drake to Its prey, finding those who are arduously training their lives away. It can appear in any form It needs to as It appraises and approaches its chosen prey.

Once contact with the victim is made, It offers a bargain (The Drake's Bargain) to those who have lost sight of their dreams and touch with their lives. In The Drake's Bargain the victim receives power, skill, strength, riches in return for their unused soul.

Once It has made Its prey a dry and empty husk; a zombie mechanically training away like some abandoned grist mill, the Drake soars into the sky again in search of the next being to corrupt.

Those who have bargained with the Drake are pitied by some for their foolishness, scorned perhaps for having entered into such a bargain.

In the eyes of those who have not sold their souls, their accomplishments are tainted, their claims without merit, and their standing tarnished.

Beware days without song and laughter, from such, the winds could rise which summon the Gray Drake to you. The Sithrengaen filled their lives with both to insure that the Gray Drake would not tempt their young.
