Old names, new souls

by Aslana Rivonogen

(Crossing, Zoluren: Akroeg 363)

She entered the bar slowly, and took what was becoming her regular seat here. "Baresh, have you ever noticed the old names with new souls about our fine land?" She said this in a whisper glancing nervously around the bar.

"Been hitting the drink already eh Aslana?" Baresh chided at her.

All she could do was giggle. "Nae good barkeep, allow me to explain. I spoke to you once about the Elven War Mage I was married too, well it seems his name is still about the realms, only with a new soul, almost as if he were possessed. It tis nae the same soul I fell in love with, but one totally different. This was told to me by my newest sister, she is a young Kaldarian Moon Mage named Rylinas. She also told me that she asked this new soul a simple question and his reply was nasty and mean." She looked at Baresh with a certain concern in her eyes. "Why would this new soul feel that he needs to be so rude. You know, I have to admit, sometimes, I have the urge to speak to him like I used to, but I know it can nae be so, why would anyone want to speak to someone so nasty to others? He is not the only one about this land who has a new soul." she nodded as this was said.

"What do you mean M'Lady?" Baresh peered quizically at her.

"There are some about, who have several different souls, just depends on the time of day you speak to them, I know of a Moon Mage who has at least three different ones, tis very confusing, it is as if they know you one minute, and the next won't give you the time." The young War Mage giggled for what seemed a good length of time.

"I know one thing is for sure, I would rather walk the 'Starry Road' then let my name be ruined by a soul as nasty as the ones that have been described to me, that I know for sure."

Baresh just nodded in agreement.

"One last thing before I go, I heard the one known as "The Watcher" has come in to your tavern and revealed himself to everyone, tis a sad thing when one as himself has given up trying to help clean up our lands. I know I have had words with him myself about what he had said about one of my friends, but once all was explained, I fully understood his cause. I too have visited the other land that shares the name of ours, it tis a nightmare there. Even though he has revealed himself, maybe he can continue his cause, our land is a much better place with people like him trying to ensure the survival of our young. If you do not return, safe paths to you my friend, and I pray to Damaris that there is more to our lands than those who have blatant disregard to those around them. But with all of these nasty souls about, tis hard to say where we will end up."

Slowly she arose from her seat, and with a silent grace exited the tavern.
