Submitted: 9 September 1998 Bringing Back an Old Tradition by Wyndguard Odicio (The Three Provinces: 342 Dolefaren 354)As some of you may know, I have recently taken under my tutelage three young Mages. As their first assignment -and final test to see how they would work as a team - I gave them three option, three differents task of which they would decide on one alone. After a few days of thinking they decided to take up the assignment of writing a Compendium of all known critters in the realms. The 342th day in the 354th year after the victory of Lanival the Redeemer in the 9th month of Dolefaren the Brigantine my Apprentices sent their assignment in. After reading the completed Compendium I was proud to have such talented young mages at my side. I started the "Apprentice Program" for a few reasons, but the main one was because ages ago, Elder Mages would take apprentices to pass on their knowledge and wisdom to the younger generation in the three provinces and surrounding areas. That tradition has slowly been fading in the past few decades, I've only known of a few Elder Mages in my lifetime which took on an Apprentice. I hope to bring back this tradition and perhaps inspire other elder adventurers - not necesarily from my Guild - to offer a younger member of their Guild an apprenticeship and teach him or her the path of such profession. It is hard work and it does require a certain amount of time to pay attention and care for an Apprentice, but when you see an apprentice grow to be someone you are very proud of, all the hard work and time make it worth it. My efforts have recently been joined with Warrior Mage Garfaldo La'Mancha, who has choosen young Mage Swiftywind as his New Apprentice. I call to those who have been in the Dragon's Realms for years to share your knowledge with the young; together we can make the future brighter, for Elanthia, and our children.
