We flew to Rome to watch my brother's
brother-in-law, Joseph Campbell, be
ordained a deacon at the Vatican. Now
that was cool! We only had two full
days in Rome, so we made the most of
it. Michelle, me, and my mom Renee
are standing in front of the Castile St.
Angelo, begun 2000 years before, and
pope's castle for 1000 years. |

Jim and I are standing on the roof of the
Castile St. Angelo, with the Vatican
behind us. |
 |
Jim and I standing outside the Colosseum,
which is 2000 years old. It feels just like
being at the Carrier Dome for a football
game! It's partly falling down, because for
centuries, people used the stone for new
buildings. |
 |
Inside the Colosseum. Down below is the
maze beneath the floor, where the slaves
and animals waited to go on. |

This is the Roman Forum, the original city.
The basilica is the large building in the rear
with the arched columns and ceiling. In the
middle on the left, you can see people
standing on the original paving stones
where the chariots drove, and parades
celebrated victories. We're standing up
above in the Palantine, another section of
the old city. |
 |
This is the Piazza Navona, one of the many
plazas in Rome. It was built above an oval
chariot racing stadium. It has three beauti-
ful fountains, although the one behind me is
having work done on it. We sat in one of
the many umbrella-shaded cafes to have
coffee while we people-watched. My
family thought the best coffee on our trip
was in Italy. |
 |
This is Trevi Fountain, made
famous in the movie "Three Coins in the
Fountain." The fountain looks like it's
carved right out of the building behind
it. You have to toss a coin over your
shoulder with your back turned for good
luck. I didn't show you that picture
because I look silly! That's my mom,
Renee, on the left, then me, then my
daughter Michelle. |
