Here it is, the report from Day 2. Your intrepid traveller reporting in from Flagstaff, AZ.
This morning I slept later than I planned, but I also went to bed later than I planned. (G) So I got up, checked out. Then I went and checked out several different used bookstores. Two were busts -- they didn't have any selection of romance novels at all and hardly any paperbacks. But the third was pretty good. I managed to find a few for friends and of course, for myself, too. :)
Then I got gas and hit the road. I got to the Hoover Dam around 2:00pm. Highway 93 that leads from Vegas to the Hoover Dam is mostly a two-lane road -- one going each way. And there was a lot of traffic the last two or three miles down to the damn. I don't know why, there just was. But I finally arrived.
It's awesome. Looking down the height of it seems to go on forever. I was going to take the tour, but the next one they had available was at 3:45 and it takes about 35 minutes. And Hoover Dam is about 3 hours from Flagstaff and there's an hour time difference. So I decided not to wait. Besides, what was I going to do for nearly 2 hours. And it was hot outside. So I wandered around the outside parts of the Hoover Dam, got a couple of pictures. There are a couple of statues and placques commemorating the engineers who lost their lives while creating the dam. I hope they turn out. Then I headed back to the car and got back on the highway. From there on out, it was smooth sailing.
I could feel the temperature drop as I drove closer and closer to Flagstaff. It must've been 85 in Hoover Dam and 40-45 here in Flagstaff. I found a room, watched JAG, went out to dinner and am now back and reading email. Once I finish, I'm going to go to bed, so I can get up early and head for La Grande Canyon.
