For the purpose of finding a time when my interest in magic began with The Magician tv show that starred Bill Bixby as Anthony Blake, the globetrotting magician with a private plane and a white Corvette that had the license plate, SPIRIT 1.
It began before that but The Magician made magic cool. Not something a clown did to amuse little kids.
Around the same time someone offered a few different kinds of magic sets for sell through television ads. One was a stripper deck, another was a Svengali deck and yet another was a small magic set that had cups and balls and a rope trip.
Credis Quod Habes et Habes
What you believe is real is real
I lost the balls of the cups and balls then I lost the cups. The rope lasted through maybe two tricks and then I lost the instructions. I never could palm worth anything and my french drops and pinches were lost to time and memory. But I always loved watching magic. And it wasnt always to figure out how it was done, it was because the magic is in the process.
My brother took me to the Magic Castle when I turned twenty-one. Hes also the person that bought me the magic set when I was eleven. The said you need to audition to become a member and that seemed so beyond me.
I delivered equipment there for a television interview. I think they were interviewing Vincent Price there and someone told me that the audition neednt be spectacular. That seemed almost attainable. But still it was not within reach.
Tout ce quiest dans la limite du possible doit etre et sera accompli
All that is within the limit of possible must be and will be accomplished
So in November of 1998 I acquired another guest pass and I went to the Castle in January and I saw the brochure for the magic classes at the Magic Castle. I resolved to take the class. I couldnt manage it until May when my schedule permitted it.
And so, a life long goal to become a member of the Magic Castle may soon be realized.
Dreams come true and magic happens when you believe.
