Both Elizabeth Clements
and Sonja Baker received letters this week from Dorchester Publishing's New
Historical Voice Contest, requesting the complete manuscripts. Sonja's entry,Highland
Pride, has been doing quite well recently. And Sonja is probably eating
too many Milano cookies these days!
Kathie Bradley's short historical is a finalist in the Toronto Golden Opportunity Contest.
Sonja Baker just found out her historical manuscript Highland Pride is a finalist in the Romancing The Novel Contest, sponsored by the Northeast Ohio chapter. The Final judge is Cecilia Oh of NAL. Sonja is celebrating with Pepperidge Farm Milanos. Yum!
Mary McCall's Highland Promise placed first in the Dixie First Chapter Contest. Congratulations, Mary!
Laurel O'Donnell's June 2000 release, MIDNIGHT SHADOW, is a finalist for the Affaire de Coeur Reader-Writer Poll for Best Medieval and Laurel is a finalist for Best Up and Coming Author. Yippee!
Congratulations to Sheila, Kathie, Cheryl S., Jeanmarie, Susan, Sonja, and Mary for advancing to the second round of the Molly. Sure hope you all can hang in there until August!

Sonja Baker and Cheryl Lewallen are both finalists in the historical category of TARA's First Impressions contest, Sonja for Highland Pride, and Cheryl for Dark Secrets. TARA's judges aren't the only ones who are impressed!
Cheryl Lewallen placed second in the Historical category of the Laurie. Are we off to a good start?! Cheryl has also finaled in the Historical category of the Fire & Ice contest; results to be announced in New Orleans. Keep up the good work, Cheryl!
And Sonja Baker's Highland Pride won the Laurie for Long Historical this year. Yippee for Sonja!
Four members of our chapter finaled in the Winning Beginnings contest. Congratulations to Mika Boblitz, Kathie Bradley, Susan Sipal (writing with her partner, Astrid) and Sheila Conway.
The Passionate Pen's Buy A Historical Program page is now up. Jesse Peterson says "It's a small thing, but if everyone bought a new historical it would send a message to publishers that we want to see more of them." Right now, the page lists books coming in July.
On a darker note, the e-publisher Dreams Unlimited has closed its doors.
