I'm 54, wife to Chuck and mother to 13-year old Abagail. I was born in Michigan, went to Michigan State University, graduating in 1969 as an elementary teacher. My first year of teaching was spent in Jacksonville, Fl. Soon after, I returned to Michigan, met and married my husband, who was in the AF at the time. When he was discharged, we moved to the middle GA. area, where we are today. I "retired" from teaching when Abagail was born to become a stay at home mom. We're currently a homeschooling family.
My love for crafts and needlework started at a young age. I learned to knit and do stamped embroidery as a child. I'll never forget my first hand-knit sweater--I had to redo almost the whole front because I didn't understand "Reversing pattern..." My Mom was also very craft-minded, and for many years was a Master Handweaver, making some beautiful fabrics. I treasure the chair we have which is covered with some of that fabric. In 1980, Mom introduced me to Counted Cross Stitch, and I was quickly addicted. I hope to have pictures of some of my projects here soon.
My first experience with an online service was on GEnie, in 1992. Thanks to a wonderful group of stitchers there, I learned to stretch my abilities to include other forms of counted stitchery, including Hardanger, Pulled Thread, Counted Canvas work, and most recently, Drawn Thread. I am also the originator of 2 web rings, The Evenweave Fabricstabbers Web Ring for stitchers, and the Canary Lovers' Web Ring, plus I am a listowner for a stitching mail list called Stitch-N-Chat.
I have always been an animal lover, having mostly cats and a couple of dogs as I was growing up. I always wanted a canary, but was not allowed to have one. I finally got one, plus several other birds over the last several years. I have had Zebra Finches, White-headed Nun finches, Cockatiels, Hahns Macaws, and Parrotlets, breeding the finches, Hahns Macaws, and Parrotlets. My flock now consists of my pet Hahns Macaw Ducky, Abagail's pet Pacific Parrotlet Jasmine (one of my first Parrotlet babies), a pair of canaries, two European Goldfinches, a pair of blue mutation/split to blue Pacific Parrotlets, a pair of Lucida Pacific Parrotlets, and a blue mutation Pacific (another of my Parrotlet babies).
I have recently found a new hobby which is taking a lot of my time, and which I am enjoying tremendously. A couple of years ago, I saw Donna Dewberry on a QVC show, demonstrating her One Stroke painting method. I bought the learning kit, but it ended up being put away due to lack of time. I recently decided to get it back out, watched the video again, and started working on learning the strokes. My first project was a birdhouse placque, a One Stroke Learning Kit. When it was finished, I was amazed that I had been able to actually paint pansies and leaves, etc., and I've been hopelessly addicted ever since! Look for a photo album of my painting, to be added to the site soon!
