Lord Glenraven's Return is the story of the young, widowed Claudia Carstairs' effort to retain Ravencroft, the estate she inherited from her late, villainous husband. Then the mysterious drifter, Jem January, comes into her life. Claudia hires him as a stable hand and butler. Imagine her surprise when she later discovers he's actually Jeremy Standish, Lord Glenraven, who has returned to Ravencroft to take back what Claudia's husband stole by trickery from Jeremy's father.
This was a delightful book, full of wonderful characters -- from the free-spirited Claudia and the charming, former pickpocket, Jem, to Claudia's relatives; Aunt Gussie, her maiden aunt and companion; Rose, her weak-willed, older sister; and Thomas, Rose's blustery, manipulative husband who thinks he can "manage" Claudia.
If you like lighthearted romps with a touch of mistaken identity, then this is your book. I'll be watching for it on the shelves!
