The Sleuths

---

Judy Bolton, created by Margaret Sutton, has always been one of my favorite teenaged sleuths. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that she didn't stay a teenager. Unlike her Stratemeyer Syndicate cousins, Judy grew up and eventually got married to a hunky FBI agent named Peter Dobbs.

Another favorite of mine is Laurie King's Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series. Mary is a perfect intellectual match for the retired detective. Never mind that she's young enough to be his daughter. They're quite an unstoppable team.

The staple of children/young adult mysteries for decades has been the Stratemeyer Syndicate's Nancy Drew, the Dana Girls, the Hardy Boys, and the Bobbsey Twins. The Bobbsey Twins, written under the pseudonym Laura Lee Hope, are the oldest. They've been around since 1904. Joe & Frank Hardy came on the scene in 1927 (written under Franklin W. Dixon). Nancy Drew arrived in 1930 and the Dana Girls in 1934 (both written under the Carolyn Keene name).
